About the role
Supports the goals and objectives of the Office of Controller by developing and implementing procedures to improve compliance with institutional and Federal/State regulations related to accounting practices for the University. Prepares and reviews reconciliations and journal entries, analyzes and balances financial data, and researches discrepancies. Identifies problem areas, recommends policies and procedures, and actively seeks to build, improve, and adapt methods to enhance University compliance while supporting its initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Prepares and reviews reconciliations of accounts and sub-ledgers, journal entries, supporting schedules, and other work papers.
- Analyzes balances and researches discrepancies in financial data related to assigned areas of responsibility.
- May assist with the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial information, including notes to the Financial Statements, Management Discussion & Analysis, and other required reports.
- Evaluates, develops, and recommends policies/procedures to properly record financial transactions and maintain accounting records in accordance with GAAP, University policies, and State regulations.
- Works with the University community and outside constituents to develop and implement strategies, procedures, and processes based on best practices to improve customer service standards.
- Responds to and resolves issues efficiently and effectively.
- May have responsibility for banking and/or cash management duties as assigned.
- Interprets fiscal and accounting administrative rules and policies; makes recommendations on new and improved programs to effectively manage fiscal and accounting administration.
- Serves as a liaison between the Office of the Controller and the University community.
- Supervises staff as assigned.
- Assists with special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related business field (minimum 6 credits in Accounting) and four (4) years of directly-related accounting experience; OR
- Master’s degree in Accounting or related business field, or an MBA, and two (2) years of directly-related accounting experience.
Qualifications
- Experience with PeopleSoft or similar ERP/GL system is a plus.
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Pay
$70,000 to $75,000
Schedule
8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Working Conditions
- Required to spend 50% or more of time operating a computer.
- Expanded background check required.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
