Production Worker
Job Overview
The Production Worker supports daily aluminum casting operations by performing critical tasks related to safety, inline preparation, skimming, casting control, and material handling. This role ensures production efficiency, product quality, and workplace safety in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and capable of operating equipment while coordinating closely with Supervisors and production teams.
Core Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and strictly follow established safety protocols
- Immediately report safety concerns, hazards, or incidents to a Supervisor
Inline Preparation & Casting Support
- Prepare troughs and inline equipment thoroughly to ensure a safe and efficient pouring process
- Understand the full inline casting process and assist with maintaining optimal operational flow
Skimming & Quality Control
- Use appropriate tools to remove slag and impurities from ingot casting molds and clean sows effectively
- Skim ingots to meet required dimensions and quality specifications, including precise sizing for specialized alloy types
Flow & Speed Monitoring
- Maintain proper casting speed to align with production time tracking; skimmer is responsible for managing inline speed
- Monitor and adjust inline flow speeds to maintain optimal casting performance
- Report discrepancies to the Supervisor
Emergency Response
- Recognize hazardous conditions and know when and how to activate the Emergency Stop (E-Stop)
- Immediately alert the Supervisor in the event of an overflow or safety concern
Mold Preparation & Handling
- Apply coatings to casting molds following proper procedures and required frequency
Material Handling & Processing
- Stack ingots accurately and verify proper size specifications
- Weigh and stencil bundles and sows accurately and without error
- Safely remove knockout pins during the sow casting process
- Apply water to sows during pouring operations in accordance with established procedures
Transportation & Equipment Operation
- Use chains safely and correctly to lift sows from molds, ensuring secure transport
- Operate a forklift safely to move ingots and sows to designated rows and storage areas
Qualifications
- Must be willing to work in a foundry manufacturing environment, where working conditions can be hot or cold depending on external temperatures
- Must be willing to follow all safety protocol and wear all required PPE
