Production Worker

About the role

MSA Safety is a purpose-driven company committed to deploying innovation and technology to help protect people and assets worldwide. We are hiring Production Workers for our Pittsfield, New Hampshire manufacturing plant to perform sewing and non-sewing operations, converting specialty cut fabric into high-quality turnout gear. All candidates will be hired on a temporary-to-permanent basis initially.

Responsibilities

• Utilize industrial single-needle, double-needle, and programmable sewing machines to perform one of over 100 operations required to complete turnout gear shells or liners.
• Ensure quality of work and learn at least two additional operations to support the departmental team.
• Perform machine operator roles such as snapping, seam sealing, automated stitching, and trimming.
• Use and understand rulers and measurements.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 months of sewing machine or stitching operation experience (training available for candidates lacking experience).
• Able to read, write, and speak basic English.
• Pass a background check, drug screen, and pre-employment physical.
• Physical ability to:
  • Stand stationary for 8 hours.
  • Walk unassisted for a full shift.
  • Reach at or above shoulder height.
  • Perform repetitive tasks using hands, wrists, fingers, arms, and shoulders.
  • Hear noises clearly (with or without hearing support).
  • See fine details, small components, and tools up close (with or without vision support).
  • Lift and carry 1–25 pounds unassisted; assist in team lifting of approximately 30 pounds.

Preferred Experience

• Previous experience in sewing, manufacturing, machine operation, assembly, quality control, or inspection.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Schedule

1st Shift: 6:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday through Thursday; 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM on Friday. Overtime on Saturdays as business needs dictate. Includes a 30-minute unpaid lunch and two breaks.

Pay

Starting pay: $19.27/hour. Additional compensation may be available based on direct experience.
