Production Technician III - 3179
About the role
As a Production Technician, you will keep stamping presses and associated assembly lines running properly. You will use a logical, methodical approach to determine the root cause of equipment malfunctions and make necessary repairs. If repairs exceed your abilities, you will communicate details to engineering, tool room, or maintenance and assist with the repairs. You will also assist supervisors in executing the production plan.
Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot progressive dies in coil-fed presses up to 100 tons.
- Handle material, strip loading, and startup requirements, including mechanical and servo feed systems.
- Utilize press and tool safety systems commonly used in progressive die setups.
- Troubleshoot automated equipment using mechanical skills and critical thinking to determine root causes of malfunctions.
- Test sensors and other electrical components and replace as needed.
- Troubleshoot stamping problems.
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance functions.
- Perform die changes and startups.
- Determine tooling problems and communicate with the tool room to resolve issues.
- Lead setup technicians in the department to ensure process efficiency.
- Utilize 5S, continuous improvement, and Lean tools daily to improve the department.
- Complete quality inspection routines, measuring multiple dimensions of stamped parts using manual and electronic measuring equipment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; prefer degree/certificate from college or technical school.
- Very high mechanical aptitude.
- Understanding of PLC-controlled equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot electro/mechanical assemblies.
- Ability to use a multimeter to check voltage, resistance, and continuity.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical issues with engineering and maintenance departments.
- Experience with ASI System and NCR Database.
- Able to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Able to work overtime when necessary.
- Able to stand the majority of the work day.
- Able to perform repetitive job functions, including hand mobility, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
- Manual dexterity required for assembly and operating tools and machines.
- Ability to safely operate moving equipment without risk to self, others, or equipment.
