Production Technician

About the role

Join Vylor in Hermiston, OR as a Production Technician and play a vital hands-on role in seed production operations. You’ll operate process equipment, use automated systems, and follow quality plans to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role supports continuous improvement, preventative maintenance, warehousing, field activities, and harvest operations while prioritizing safety.

Responsibilities

• Run a variety of process equipment while adhering to robust safety policies
• Ensure compliance with Quality Plan Work Instructions and requirements
• Collect and record data for continuous improvement projects and production records
• Support preventative maintenance (PM) and general repair efforts
• Lead or support a defined safety program to enhance site safety
• Assist with warehousing activities, including forklift operation
• Use automation and computerized systems (HMI, computers, iPads, etc.) to perform work tasks
• Perform field management activities such as scouting, field maintenance, logistical planning, and maintaining relationships with external partners (growers, contractors, etc.)
• Assist with harvest activities including preparation, seed sampling, truck unloading, and other relevant processes
• Perform inventory management, shipping, receiving, and pooling seed for planting orders during spring planting season
• Support the field team in summer with activities including roguing, phytosanitary field inspections, data collection using company applications, yield estimates, and moisture sampling
• Various other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED or willingness to obtain GED within one year of hire
• Willingness and flexibility to work rotating shifts, scheduled overtime, weekends, and holidays during seasonal peaks
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Comfortable with technology (computers, iPads) and familiar with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
• Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• High attention to detail, multitasking, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Proactive, adaptable, and able to communicate concerns effectively
• Legally able to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship available)
• Valid US driver’s license to drive company vehicles to field locations

Skills

• Value health and safety; always work safely and follow all safety policies
• Stand and sit for extended periods
• Work both outdoors and indoors in hot, cold, wet, and dry conditions
• Lift up to 60 lbs
• Perform work involving repetitive motion and/or repetitive lifting
• Exposure to dust, plant allergens (e.g., corn, sunflower, cotton, canola pollen, sorghum), mold spores, and potential chemicals

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Associate degree or two-year trade degree
• Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles (5S, Continuous Improvement, Standardized Work)
• WMS and SAP/ERP system experience
• Forklift operation experience
• Agricultural experience
• Mechanical skillset
