Production Technician - 3rd Shift

About the role

The Production/Team Technician ensures the correct operation of automatic and semi-automatic assembly production equipment in accordance with governing documentation. This role involves preventing nonconformances, identifying and recording problems, initiating recommendations, and verifying continuous operational improvements. The Technician applies automation skills in electronics, mechanics, pneumatics, and hydraulics to troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and modify automated machinery.

Responsibilities

• Perform machine and systems troubleshooting and repair; assist with specification, installation, and modification of integrated systems.
• Perform diagnostic checks on automated equipment; isolate problems including sensors, controllers, encoders, servomotors, and/or servo valves.
• Make repairs to production equipment utilizing controls, drawings, electrical, general mechanics, hand tools, hydraulics, machine shop, piping systems, pneumatics, and welding.
• Complete shift start-up paperwork such as process parameter, traceability, and start-up checklist.
• Conduct preventive maintenance tasks, including all Level I required tasks as per MP.
• Understand machine MO, PC, WP, STM, and Interim Specifications.
• Perform changeovers, including line clearance of components and tooling changeouts.
• Fill component hoppers and complete necessary traceability paperwork.
• Pull inspection test samples and stage for QC Operator.
• Engage in machine troubleshooting on all assigned stations, including bevel mold, pin & heater block changeout, and bevel trim adjustments.
• Update hourly production boards with production and efficiency numbers for all Mods; note issues that prevented goal attainment (downtime, waste, quality, etc.).
• Process warehouse ordering of components and pull tooling for changeovers.
• Submit machine repair tags to identify issues requiring support services.
• Perform all functions of a Team Operator when required.
• Assist with training of new Technicians.
• Maintain 5S standards in assigned work areas.
• Model company values and support strategic initiatives.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
• Assure compliance of Company operations to all applicable laws, regulations, and standards, including knowledge of occupational health and environmental regulations.
• Engage in Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives, focusing on continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Proficiency in electronics, mechanical systems, and manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of tools and components used in the maintenance and repair of mechanical systems.
• Experience troubleshooting motor control relays, contactors, and jog circuits.
• Knowledge of automated and semi-automated machinery and processes.
• Sound judgment in executing technical and troubleshooting issues.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills to facilitate communication across various levels and areas within the organization.
• Understanding of computers and computerized controls.
• Ability to learn new technologies and perform continuous improvement activities.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma or GED required; technical school background desirable.
• Up to 3 years of manufacturing experience; previous experience with automated and semi-automated equipment preferred.

Work Environment

• Work involves use of manufacturing equipment or close proximity to equipment.
• May be exposed to biohazards and/or chemicals.
• Work environment ranges from clean rooms with proper gowning requirements to open production areas that may be noisy with moving equipment.
• Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. and push/pull up to 80 lbs.
• Recurring physical demands include standing, walking, stooping, crouching, climbing, and bilateral motion involving hands, wrists, and upper body.
• Concentrated visual attention required for performing checks on products and components.
• Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time.
