About the role

The mission of the Group Leader is to help their team produce a quality product for our customers. To be able to communicate priority information from all areas of the plant to include daily numbers, safety topics, maintenance and quality issues. To run their shift according to standard helping the plant run at optimal efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the activities of all team employees.
  • Acts as a role model for Safety.
  • Ensures the safety of all team employees by checking their work areas for safety/housekeeping hazards and addressing issues immediately.
  • Reports any infractions to their Supervisor.
  • Supports and investigates situations in which line/equipment stoppage occurs due to perceived, imminent safety risk.
  • Drives prioritized corrective and preventive actions to eliminate/reduce environmental, health or safety risks.
  • Conducts preliminary investigations on safety incidents, root cause analysis and implements corrective actions accordingly in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Leads all required meetings with safety (i.e. Pre-shift, Department, General Communication, etc.).
  • Trains and develops all assigned employees for whom they are responsible using selected safety topics as identified and assigned by the Safety Manager or their immediate Supervisor.
  • Reviews and documents daily safety topic discussion at meetings.
  • Motivates and coaches employees through good communication and frequent performance feedback.
  • Addresses complaints and helps to resolve problems.
  • Provides input on employee performance appraisals, readiness for promotion, participates and recommends appropriate candidate for vacancies; provides or recommends training as needed.
  • Aids in the retention of appropriate documentation.
  • Attends meetings and provides information to Supervisor in his/her absence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge normally acquired through completion of a High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Previous manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Individuals with 2 - 4 year technical degree highly desirable.
