Production Supervisor Swing Shift

Essential Functions

  • Lead the day-to-day production activities across all departments throughout the Plant.
  • Ensure all department associates, including Leads, are properly trained on Standard Operating Procedures for all equipment and processes.
  • Coordinate with Sanitation, Quality and Warehouse, as well as with other shift Supervisors.
  • Affirm adherence to production schedules and report causes and solutions for attainment shortfalls.
  • Staff levels to ensure adequate production time, staffing, supplies, equipment and raw materials to achieve attainment goals.
  • Verify the calibration of scales and base settings, ensure equipment is set to standard, and ensure process and recipe-specific parameters are followed.
  • Train and hold Leads accountable for the performance of their shift team members.
  • Complete administrative duties such as:
    • Time and attendance
    • Employment status changes
    • Time off approvals
    • Food Safety, GMP Policy compliance
    • Disciplinary action
    • Creation and distribution of staffing schedules
    • Auditing and Housekeeping compliance
    • True Root Cause analysis
  • Ensure daily housekeeping duties are completed thoroughly and correctly.
  • Correct and/or report food safety issues and ensure team members follow established SOPs, SSOPs and GMPs.
  • Communicate day-to-day Department or Company activities using appropriate communication tools.
  • Create a team-oriented atmosphere, inspire team members to continuously strive toward improvement.
  • Communicate performance to targets, accomplishments, and safety performance.
  • Lead and manage the change process and communicate pass-down information in a timely and positive manner.
  • Encourage the promotion of internal talent, offer development opportunities, and support learning through coaching and feedback.
  • Ensure new team members progress toward full competency.
  • Coach and monitor trainers to ensure training standards are adhered to and training process is followed.
  • Perform or initiate job skills validations for cross-trained, transferred or new team members.
  • Solicit input on team member performance; deliver performance evaluations.
  • Address and document performance problems, progressive discipline, and deliver disciplinary actions.
  • Escalate serious or unresolved performance issues to Human Resources.
  • Ensure all food safety policies and procedures are enforced.
  • Audit Leads daily standard work; Monitor and correct deviations from standards and base settings.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2-4 years of previous Supervisory experience
  • Understanding of basic mathematical calculations, reading, and record keeping
  • Food processing, or similar work experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to analyze machine operations and recommend or implement solutions
  • Ability to operate equipment safely, and lock-out/tag-out equipment for cleaning and maintenance
  • Strong communication skills, including delegation, performance problem solving and conflict resolution
  • Ability to relate to, train and communicate in a variety of styles, comfortable with a culturally diverse work culture
  • Ability to understand and communicate in English
  • Ability to train employees and coach to drive performance; ability to deliver feedback on a regular basis
  • Ability to plan and organize and manage time effectively
  • Ability to learn and apply company standards including, but not limited to, lock-out/tag-out, safety practices, SOPs, GMPs, employee handbook, etc.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)

Working Conditions/Physical Factors

  • Standing, repetitive movement, bending and twisting, using hands to handle objects
  • Sustained noise levels
  • Exposure to a variety of food allergens
  • Very hot temperatures
  • Exposure to hazards such as machinery, slippery floors, ladders and powered industrial vehicles
  • May need to wear personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Standing for 85-90% of shift, sometimes up to 12 hours
  • Available for all shifts, including nights, weekends, and some holidays
