Leads an assigned production team to achieve goals and solve problems while prioritizing employee safety, teamwork, and product quality. Oversees product processing, packaging, and storage in compliance with FDA, USDA, and Simmons rules and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Leads a team of front-line employees, communicating and motivating to drive productivity and achieve company goals.
- Supervises employees to maintain discipline, teamwork, and safety, ensuring daily production requirements are met.
- Handles scheduling, attendance tracking, and time-off approval for direct reports.
- Evaluates work effort and conducts performance appraisals for personnel.
- Coordinates activities of workers engaged in processing, product development, or service delivery.
- Maintains inventory records and requisitions ingredients/supplies to meet delivery schedules.
- Evaluates materials and products to uphold organizational standards.
- Collaborates with other supervisors to align departmental activities.
- Manages and interprets production reports (e.g., throughput, yield) to meet customer requirements.
- Ensures production meets quality and efficiency targets while maintaining appropriate line speeds.
- Completes all required paperwork within established time frames.
- Promotes and enforces a safe work environment, complying with Simmons, OSHA, and government regulations.
- Fosters a continuous improvement culture, applying LEAN concepts to drive out waste and improve processes.
- Ensures quality performance meets or exceeds USDA/FDA guidelines and company standards.
- Collaborates with operations teams (HR, Safety, Maintenance, QA, Finance, Shipping) to maximize efficiency and product quality.
- Directs and supervises employee work activities, monitors performance, and recommends compensation decisions.
- Screens, interviews, and hires candidates in collaboration with HR; administers disciplinary actions as needed.
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships to foster employee morale and productivity.
Requirements
- Willingness to lead, take charge, and provide direction.
- Proficiency in reading and writing English.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and cost management.
- Understanding of business and management principles, including strategic planning, resource allocation, and leadership techniques.
- Familiarity with computers and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Preferred experience within a food processing organization.
- Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of related work experience, including at least 1 year in a leadership role.
Physical Activities
- Enters and locates information on a computer, often verifying small print.
- Communicates with customers, vendors, or employees via phone, in person, or email; may present to groups.
- Works in various temperatures within a manufacturing environment.
- Moves about the facility and surrounding property.
- Wears required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as specified by the facility.
Travel
May require travel to other local facilities.
