Production Supervisor, Day Shift

The Production Supervisor is responsible for directing, developing, and overseeing manufacturing operations on the assigned shift to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives within a clean-room environment.
Responsibilities
The Production Supervisor provides leadership to Production Leads and Operators, manages staffing and performance, drives continuous improvement, and serves as the primary decision maker for all shift-level operational, quality, and personnel matters. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing the daily production plan based on schedule requirements, labor availability, equipment capacity, and material readiness
- Making decisions related to workflow adjustments, resource allocation, priority changes, and operational troubleshooting
- Directing and overseeing Production Leads to ensure assignments, work execution, and operator deployment support productivity and throughput goals
- Monitoring real-time performance and taking corrective action when results deviate from expectations
- Coordinating with Planning, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance to manage material flow, equipment issues, and schedule risks
- Verifying product quality by ensuring proper completion of batch records, in-process verifications, clean-room documentation, and adherence to specifications
- Maintaining departmental reporting and documentation related to production metrics, safety observations, downtime, and improvement activities
Leadership, People Management & Staff Development
The Production Supervisor will lead, coach, and develop Production Leads and Operators, building skillsets that support company growth and operational capability. This includes:
- Conducting performance evaluations, delivering coaching, initiating corrective action, and managing employee relations issues
- Interviewing, selecting, and hiring new operators and leads in partnership with HR and the Production Manager
- Monitoring attendance, approving timekeeping, and managing overtime levels to support labor efficiency and budget adherence
- Setting clear expectations for individual and team performance and providing timely, constructive feedback
- Building a positive, safe, and engaged work culture that emphasizes teamwork, accountability, and professional growth
Safety & Compliance
The Production Supervisor will serve as the final decision maker for any safety-related work stoppages, ensuring conditions are safe before production resumes. This includes:
- Enforcing all safety policies, including PPE use, machine guarding, ergonomic practices, incident reporting, and clean-room requirements
- Conducting safety walks, participating in safety investigations, and driving corrective actions for unsafe behaviors or conditions
- Ensuring compliance with clean-room gowning protocols, contamination-control practices, and documentation standards
Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance
The Production Supervisor will ensure team adherence to SOPs, work instructions, ISO requirements, and clean-room standards. This includes:
- Approving rework decisions, quality-related escalations, and corrective/preventive actions originating from the shift
- Driving accountability for accurate documentation, including batch records, travelers, equipment logs, and quality checks
- Partnering with Quality to address deviations, non-conformances, and customer-related issues
Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence
The Production Supervisor will lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and similar methodologies. This includes:
- Using data and KPI trends to identify opportunities for productivity improvements, waste reduction, and process optimization
- Facilitating root-cause investigations and ensuring implementation of corrective and preventive actions
- Approving changes to workflow, standard work, cell layout, or production methods within the department
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years of manufacturing experience (machining, clean-room production, assembly, or quality)
- Previous supervisory experience required; clean-room or semiconductor experience strongly preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred; equivalent technical or supervisory experience accepted
Skills & Competencies
The Production Supervisor will have:
- Strong leadership capabilities with demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or structured process-improvement tools
- Ability to analyze data, interpret operational metrics, and use information for decision-making
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to influence across shifts and departments
- Highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Computer Skills
The Production Supervisor will have:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to maintain and report KPIs, create performance dashboards, and support presentation of operational data
Working Environment & Physical Requirements
The Production Supervisor will work in a temperature-controlled clean-room environment, following strict gowning and contamination-control procedures. This includes:
- Frequent work inside a clean-room environment
- Exposure to production equipment and repetitive motion tasks
- Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs as needed
