Partners with management to promote the growth, quality, and efficiency of V&V Supremo Foods’ production processes and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Establishes and/or adjusts production schedules to supply & demand volumes.
- Finds solutions to positively improve working conditions and direct/motivate the workforce.
- Supplies and maintains necessary materials, tools & inventory levels for required objectives and work tasks.
- Enforces policies and procedures to meet or exceed quality specifications and safety standards.
- Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments of equipment ensuring food safety.
- Responsible for production schedules, labor use, and worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
- Makes recommendations for continuous improvements.
- Supervises staff of 18 to 24.
- Ensures monthly safety training is executed according to plan and verifies employees are using the correct PPE and equipment.
- Leads by example in safety, reports injuries, conducts root cause analysis, and develops action plans to prevent recurrence.
- Follows and enforces OSHA regulations and procedures.
- Acts as a resource for SQF-related policy/procedure inquiries and reports potential food safety issues to the Plant Manager and Quality Control Department.
- Maintains the master sanitation schedule (MSS) and ensures sanitation needs are met, adhering to Pasteurized Milk Ordinance standards.
- Trains and retrains staff on SQF policies/procedures to promote food safety culture.
- Maintains time and production records, requisitions, and verifies product specifications.
- Complies with and enforces all Safe Quality Food (SQF/HACCP) policies/procedures and requirements.
- Confers with other supervisors during shift exchange to coordinate facility activities.
- Plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures, and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, and working conditions.
- Manages performance, drives accountability, and recognizes employees based on job descriptions and performance metrics (safety, quality, performance, cost).
- Ensures the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is followed and verifies/approves scheduled hours.
- Familiar with dairy manufacturing equipment and food packaging systems, including Form-Fill-Seal Vacuum Packaging Machines.
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
- Generates KPI daily reports (People, Quality, Production, Performance, Cost).
- Conducts weekly cycle counts of raw materials, packaging materials, and finished goods.
- Orders materials based on production schedules and availability, aligned with Plant Management.
- Ensures quality specifications to avoid write-offs, manages labor hours and overtime within budget.
- Ensures pounds per hour per SKU meet or exceed standards, minimizes waste, and maximizes yield.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
SQF Compliance
It is the responsibility of every employee to ensure compliance with V&V Supremo’s food safety and quality management system, adhering to food safety regulations and SQF standards. This includes:
- Hazard Prevention: Keeping work areas clean and free of unsafe obstacles.
- Educate: Learning and teaching correct standard operating procedures for assigned tasks.
- Accountable: Understanding and complying with the Company’s SQF policies and procedures.
- Report Food Safety Issues: Communicating any food safety and quality problems to your supervisor.
- Training: Attending all required training and passing necessary evaluations.
Requirements
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills (Root Cause Analysis).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven supervisory and leadership skills in the manufacturing industry.
- Basic math skills and hands-on, can-do attitude.
- Understanding and awareness of Latino and American cultures.
- Strong people skills with the ability to build relationships with managers, workforce, and customers.
- Ability to take ownership, hold self-accountable, improve production processes, and increase efficiency.
- Spanish and English (written and spoken) preferred.
- Production experience in the consumer goods industry (food processing & sanitation experience preferred).
- Knowledge of continuous process/production improvement.
- ERP/MRP knowledge and troubleshooting experience.
- OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) experience.
- Familiarity with manufacturing equipment, including packaging systems.
- Experience supervising a Spanish-speaking workforce (18 to 24 employees).
- At least 5 years’ experience as a Production Supervisor.
- BA or BS degree desired.
Key Interfaces
- External: Raw materials representatives, product consumers, retail/food service customers, third-party vendors.
- Internal: Production management and workforce, Quality Control Department, Maintenance Department, Distribution, Sales, Marketing, Procurement, Finance, Human Resources.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This role is performed in a food manufacturing environment with strict adherence to food safety, quality, and workplace safety standards, including the use of required PPE. The environment may include:
- Variable temperatures and machinery noise.
- Exposure to food ingredients and sanitation chemicals.
- Standing or walking for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks.
- Regularly lifting up to 25–35 pounds (occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance).
