Compensation: $75k - $85k | Location: Northlake, IL | 12-hour rotating Day shift (36/48 hour)

About the Role

The Production Supervisor leads production personnel by providing leadership, guidance, and follow-through in support of the operations plan. The focus of the job is to maximize production, improve quality and safety of the shift with the available resources, and continuously develop talents to improve effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Promote workplace safety through weekly shift safety meetings, area safety audits, and safety Gemba walks.
  • Investigate and complete safety incident reports, including near misses and incidents involving equipment or people.
  • Effectively communicate significant business and production issues to personnel through scheduled weekly shift meetings.
  • Communicate and enforce high expectations of quality and production standards.
  • Lead root-cause improvement activities utilizing shift personnel.
  • Conduct effective Tier 2 meetings daily to discuss performance metrics and assign countermeasures.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality based on daily monitoring of visual production metrics.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving them; initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve goals.
  • Perform administrative duties competently (e.g., E-Time system, LN, Virtual Client, shift reports, performance evaluations, safety investigation reports).
  • Complete assigned improvement tasks.
  • Support and reinforce three major areas of improvement: machine setups, process controls, and training.
  • Develop talents of shift personnel to maximize benefit for both the company and the individual employee.
  • Initiate immediate action on any food or product safety issue; all staff are responsible for correcting or reporting food safety problems.
  • Directly supervise plant production employees, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning work, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining, and addressing complaints.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • Supervision, lean, and ISO experience (plastics industry preferred).
  • Additional education in quality, safety, mechanical, or electrical areas is a plus.
  • Previous knowledge of quality control procedures, good manufacturing practices, and team development.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, high-energy environment with constant interaction with people.
  • Solid understanding of demand management techniques and good manufacturing practices.
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement.
  • Experience with plastic extrusion and/or injection molding is preferred.
