General Statement of Duties
The 2nd Shift Production Supervisor is a working supervisor who supervises team members in assigned areas. This role is a working supervisor that contributes to the Team as well as provides supervision to workers. Areas of supervision may include Welding, Grinding, Assembly, Machine Shop, Shipping & Receiving, and Paint.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Completes continuous improvement initiatives.
- Supervises and coordinates machine set-ups and operations requiring a broad knowledge of manufacturing & metal fabrication processes, parts, and industrial applications to provide efficient product that meets quality, quantity, schedule, and cost requirements.
- Organizes and assigns work to utilize available skills, knowledge and experience, machines, and tooling to maintain schedule and minimize costs.
- Recommends maintenance and safety improvements to Management.
- Handle day-to-day workflow issues within assigned teams under the direction of management.
- Collaborate with Production Manager to make sure the appropriate levels of staffing in accordance with skill requirements, work levels, and schedules, including monitoring work hours and training requirements.
- Be an advocate for the Safety Program ensuring that safety rules and regulations are enforced.
- Participate in internal programs, such as safety committee, job evaluations and performance reviews.
- Effective interaction, guidance, and development of employees within the group.
- Work with Engineering department personnel to design model fixturing, jigs, and other devices.
- Responsible for supervising shipping and receiving activities.
- Responsible for locking up the facility at the end of the night and making sure that employees have cleaned up their work areas for the next day.
- Act as Emergency Response Team Leader to coordinate activities related to emergencies, including but not limited to evacuation notification, accounting for all employees including building walk-through, shut down of equipment and utilities, care of critical plant operations during evacuation, and direct emergency personnel including communication of emergency details.
- Perform work in a safe manner and complete all required safety inspections.
- Enforce conformance with safety rules and regulations.
- Involved with continuous improvement efforts regarding all aspects of safety.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment while on the production floor.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a manufacturing environment in a production role, which includes two or more of the following: welding, painting, grinding, drilling, machining, hydraulic assembly, forklift and overhead crane operation, or other related functions.
- If this supervisor oversees welding, 5 or more years of experience in MIG Welding is mandatory, along with being proficient in welding steel and stainless-steel materials.
- Familiarity with the use of and basic maintenance of welding machines.
- Ability to demonstrate and share knowledge of blueprint symbols, welding symbols, welding terminology, welding codes and metallurgy.
- Ability to demonstrate high quality weldments through continual attention to detail and anticipate potential problems during the weld planning and design stages.
- Ability to plan and construct simple tooling and fixturing.
- Experienced in reading, interpretation, and use of Engineered Drawings.
- Must have experience working with hydraulic systems and components or other related industrial products.
- Experienced in reading, interpretation, and use of Engineered Drawings.
- Must have both hands-on experience and the ability to supervise and lead production employees.
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with management, co-workers, vendors, and distributors.
- Must have a proficient working knowledge of Mohawk’s products and services.
- Must be detail oriented with attention to accuracy.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English language and be understood.
- Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Must be able to work with various technologies.
- Must interact professionally with people both in person and on the telephone.
- Desired Associate’s degree and experience in a supervisory role.
- Lean Manufacturing and pull system processes experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and manufacturing software applications such as MRP systems.
Physical Demands
- Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Physical activity includes walking, standing, sitting, pushing, pulling, climbing, kneeling, bending, reaching above shoulders, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- If work demands require lifting in excess of 50 pounds, the use of a mechanical device or initiation of a two-person lift is required.
Work Environment
- Perform activities in a well-lighted and well-ventilated area.
- May be subject to changes in temperature and exposure to above normal noise levels, electrical equipment, and chemicals.
- Normally acceptable manufacturing environment with no abnormal hazards or risks other than those listed herein.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- The Production Supervisor supervises the work of employees in various departments.
- Supervisory responsibilities include handling disciplinary issues, scheduling, training and development, interviewing and hiring, terminations, promotions, compensation, and performance management.
