About the Role

The Production Supervisor leads daily production operations within the Metals/Metal Finishing Department to ensure high-quality finished products, on-time delivery, productivity, and safe, compliant work practices. This role oversees shift operations, coordinates team members and resources, troubleshoots production and equipment issues, and works closely with Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and other departments to improve workflow and reduce downtime. The Production Supervisor will lead, train, and develop production employees while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and safety-focused work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, schedule, and direct production staff on shift to meet production plans, daily productivity goals, and on-time delivery targets.
  • Monitor production processes, workflow, staffing, and resources; adjust schedules or priorities as needed to maintain efficiency and throughput.
  • Troubleshoot process, quality, and equipment issues; partner with Maintenance to minimize downtime and support reliable operations.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to resolve defects, perform or support inspections, and ensure finished products meet customer specifications and company quality standards.
  • Enforce company safety policies, weather protocols, OSHA requirements, and environmental regulations, including participation in plant evacuation and shelter drills.
  • Train operators on process parameters, safety protocols, inspection criteria, and standard work procedures; provide feedback and support employee development.
  • Maintain accurate production records, inspection reports, shift summaries, performance metrics, and documentation of operational challenges.
  • Identify and support continuous improvement opportunities that enhance quality, productivity, safety, and overall department performance.
  • Serve as the stand-alone supervisor and lone key holder for the assigned shift, including securing the building at the end of the shift.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience in an industrial, production, manufacturing, or metal finishing environment.
  • Strong understanding of production processes, workflow management, scheduling, and daily productivity tracking.
  • Proven ability to lead, train, motivate, and manage production employees effectively.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety standards, OSHA requirements, environmental compliance, and safe work practices.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and plant or production management software.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and specifications and use measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical, vocational, associate, or bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, manufacturing, or a similar discipline.
  • Experience in metal finishing, industrial services, or a service-oriented production environment.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, continuous improvement, or process control methodologies.
  • OSHA certification or additional safety-related training.

Skills and Competencies

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can balance production goals, quality requirements, safety compliance, and employee development. This position requires strong communication skills to set clear expectations and coordinate across departments; analytical skills to monitor production performance and identify improvement opportunities; and sound judgment to resolve operational issues quickly. The Production Supervisor should be dependable, organized, and comfortable working independently while maintaining accountability for shift performance, facility security, and team success.

Schedule

This is a 2nd shift position.
