About the role
Covia is seeking a dynamic Plant Supervisor for its Troy Grove, IL location. Reporting to the Operations Plant Manager, the Plant Supervisor will oversee production and shipping operations to maximize output at the lowest cost while ensuring safety and quality.
Responsibilities
- Accept personal responsibility for safety by maintaining a safe work environment and using the Covia SLAM (Stop, Look, Analyze, Manage) risk protocol.
- Report all near misses, unsafe acts, or injuries immediately.
- Administer and enforce safety and health policies, adhering to the SLAM risk method.
- Advise the Plant Manager on potential issues affecting plant safety and efficiency.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and weekly toolbox safety talks with shift employees.
- Directly supervise production activities:
- Receiving of raw materials via truck or rail
- Raw material and product flow within the plant
- Air classifying
- Ball mill operations
- Quality sampling of raw materials and finished products
- Product storage
- Directly supervise maintenance activities:
- Maintenance planning
- Spare part management
- Purchasing and receiving
- Equipment condition monitoring
- Condition monitoring and replacement/servicing of equipment
- Work order management
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years' experience as a maintenance supervisor.
- Prior experience supervising in an industrial or mineral processing environment.
- Team-focused leadership with the ability to achieve results through others.
- Preference given to candidates with experience in ball mills, air classifying, or maintenance.
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a technical field preferred.
