Production Supervisor - 3rd Shift

About the role
We are seeking a Production Supervisor for 3rd Shift at our Smyrna, TN Wesanco ZSi Strut Plant. This role is responsible for directing all shift personnel, maintaining a safe work environment, and ensuring personnel have completed required training. The position aims to achieve or exceed performance levels in safety, quality, delivery, and productivity, with direct responsibility for materials handling, production planning, manufacturing, packaging, inventory control, and shipping.
Responsibilities
- Supervise Packaging, Assembly, Warehouse, Steel, and Welding manufacturing team members who assemble, package, label, set up, and operate steel manufacturing equipment.
- Ensure daily production schedules are met while maintaining safety, environmental, quality, and cost objectives.
- Lead and direct employee functions, including selection, hiring, development, performance reviews, and creating development plans.
- Manage training of personnel and provide hands-on mentorship.
- Ensure compliance with the Quality System and Environmental Management System.
- Direct work teams and supervise production efforts to meet published schedules.
- Participate in hiring, promotion, discipline, and discharge decisions.
- Maintain a consistently safe work environment and demonstrate commitment to safety and compliance.
- Hold employees accountable for safety, environmental, quality, and quantity standards, ensuring an inspection-ready workplace.
- Ensure team members receive sufficient training to perform roles safely and productively.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in a timely manner.
- Coordinate and process work orders, fostering collaborative relationships with support functions.
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement activities, such as implementing lean manufacturing tools and automated inspection requirements.
- Improve operating efficiencies, reduce costs, and address unfavorable trends in downtime, safety, and quality.
- Understand the process for containing nonconforming product and completing a RID.
- Complete the job position’s Training Instruction Checklist.
- Perform other typical duties as necessary.
Requirements
- A relevant business or engineering degree is preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of ERP systems, including bill of materials, work order management, and inventory control.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Proven track record of improving efficiencies, reducing costs, and leading teams to effect positive change.
- Knowledge of lean techniques is advantageous.
- Proven management skills with the ability to optimize team performance.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and competing priorities.
- Confident, self-starter, and change agent.
