About the role
The Production Supervisor reports to the Operations Manager and is directly responsible for day-to-day production and/or packaging operations. This role focuses on achieving safety, quality, delivery, cost, and motivational objectives (SQDCM) through individual and team contributions, while collaborating with fellow team members. The Production Supervisor monitors line performance, quality, costs, and safety, initiating corrective and preventive actions when standards are not met. This position provides direction, leadership, development, and support to direct reports through empowerment, teamwork, and on-the-job assignments, while leading and contributing to Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Operate and oversee production and/or packaging lines, managing workflow by monitoring process steps, setting processing variables, and observing control points and equipment.
- Develop and apply Continuous Improvement (CI) and Lean Manufacturing (LM) tools to continuously understand problems and improve performance.
- Plan, lead, and contribute to ongoing CI initiatives as both Team Leader and Team Member.
- Proactively develop cross-functional and shift-to-shift collaborative relationships to transfer knowledge and drive performance improvement.
- Provide direct reports with leadership, direction, feedback, and coaching to achieve work objectives and improve performance and skills.
- Achieve manufacturing objectives by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
- Develop individual and team capability using skill assessment, coaching, training, personal growth opportunities, and performance management tools.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, company, and industry best practices for operating and safety requirements by educating and directing personnel on control points, equipment, and resources.
- Monitor and maintain employee, equipment, and facility compliance with human safety and food safety regulations.
- Plan and build budgets for operation, maintenance, major repairs, and improvements.
- Effectively manage line/department operating, maintenance, and labor expenses.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Associate technical degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and/or experience also considered.
- 3 to 5+ years of related work experience in an industrial food manufacturing operation; prior supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated strong leadership, team, and teambuilding skills.
- Experience with Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives and tools.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work with individuals and groups of diverse backgrounds and varying education and expertise levels.
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and basic mathematical skills.
- Effective planning, organizing, and priority-setting skills.
- Shift flexibility, including extended hours, weekends, and holidays when required.
