Primary Function

Sort soiled linen and fill appropriate slings or other containers for washing.

Responsibilities

• Cart Dumper
  • Move soiled cart from storage area and position it in the automatic dumper.
  • Notify the bagger by voice which facility is being processed whenever a change occurs.
  • Use dumper controls to dump cart contents onto the conveyor and assure that all bags fall onto the conveyor.
  • Remove stuck bags from the cart in the dumper using a stick or metal pole as needed.
  • Remove the empty cart, inspect for defects, remove debris or strings, label any damaged cart with a numbered plastic tag, and route it to maintenance.
  • Move the cart to the cart washer and properly position it for the automatic system.
  • Incidental duties: move full hamper bag slings and heavy soil slings to the monorail loading area, replace with empty sling and sling caddy; move rags, dust mops and wet mops to the scale (may weigh them); transport items to the elevator and send downstairs; monitor plastic‑bag containers and recycle or discard as appropriate; correct simple monorail errors such as a stopped sling.
• Bagger
  • Notify sorters by voice when a change of facility occurs.
  • Open soiled linen bags and dump the linen onto the conveyor, maintaining a pace that ensures a steady flow of work to the sorters.
  • Notify the Pre‑Sorter by voice if mops, rags, or special items are dumped onto the conveyor.
  • Sort plastic bags into designated containers for recycling or disposal.
  • Incidental duties: may start or stop the conveyor.
• Pre‑Sort
  • Notify sorters by voice when a change of facility occurs.
  • Remove rags and mops and sort them into appropriate carts or slings.
  • Remove “specialty” items and sort them into appropriate carts or slings.
  • Remove folded sheets; separate sheets and spreads if time permits.
  • Prepare linen for sorters by pulling apart rolled‑up linen and/or moving like items together.
  • Incidental duties: may start or stop the conveyor.
• Sort Deck
  • Sort linen according to type of item into one of twenty‑four different slings, ensuring items are correctly placed and not hanging out of the sling.
  • Stop loading a sling when it registers full; may place sorted linen on the deck floor.
  • Remove folded sheets.
  • Work as a team, assisting co‑workers as required based on the linen mix being processed.
  • Incidental duties: may start or stop the conveyor.
• Scale Operator
  • Move soiled cart from the receiving area to the scale.
  • Scan the cart’s bar code and member code.
  • Place the member weight ticket on the printer and print the weight.
  • Move the soiled cart to the storage area.
  • Incidental duties: may weigh mops and rags, new linen, rewash linen, or other linen prior to washing; clean work area and equipment; move soiled specials (carts or bags) to the designated wash area; obey all Blood‑Borne Pathogen rules; put on a clean work gown, hair net, and gloves at the start of shift and after each break; dispose of contaminated protective gear in designated containers; unfold folded sheets; untie knots in jail sheets; remove and turn in to the Lead Worker all member property found; notify the Lead Worker of equipment or linen problems.
