About the role
Charter Steel is hiring for two positions in their Saukville, WI facility:
- Billet Conditioner (Melting Department)
- Finishing Operator (Rolling Mill)
Responsibilities
Billet Conditioner:
- Use power tools to remove kerf from billets.
- Apply ID tags using a welding torch and mark billets with chalk.
- Place chains and spacer bars between billets.
- Perform quality inspections.
- Operate an overhead crane.
- Frequent walking, standing, push/pull, and lifting up to 35 lbs.
Finishing Operator:
- Operate conveyors & compactor.
- Trim front and back of coils.
- Auxiliary in mill size changes, including roll changes.
- Operate a forklift.
- Frequent walking, standing, push/pull, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Occasionally up to 75 lbs.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED (Charter Steel offers free GEDWorks program).
Comfortable with basic math (counting and simple calculations).
Team player who works well and communicates with others.
Background in manufacturing or industrial production, assembly, warehouse, welding, construction, metals, steel, or other hands-on jobs.
Forklift & Overhead Crane experience is a plus!
Strong safe work mindset.

Pay
- Billet Conditioner: $26.50/hr
- Finishing Operator: $26.50/hr
Schedule
- 12 hour shifts on our 5-2-2-5 schedule.
- You would work 5 nights on, 2 nights off, 2 nights on, 5 nights off.
- Have every other weekend off!
