About the Role

The Production Manager will ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through quality workmanship, meeting deadlines, delivering solutions, and demonstrating a positive attention to detail. This role is committed to leadership through accountability, team building, knowledge sharing, and meeting company financial goals. The Production Manager supervises all manufacturing, maintenance, and production scheduling activities at the plant level, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and quality control programs. This position trains and develops employees and drives continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize safety ahead of all other metrics.
  • Commit to maintaining a clean plant environment and be visible on the shop floor.
  • Ensure adequate staffing for all scheduled production.
  • Manage and report how plant operations affect the P&L, including overtime and production efficiency.
  • Oversee shop floor activities following established procedures and approved methods.
  • Direct production operations to fulfill sales orders, meet inventory requirements, deliver quality products on time, and maximize profit.
  • Manage and train Supervisors, providing leadership with a hands-on style.
  • Support management decisions while balancing company interests with employee needs.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes in methods and procedures to improve quality, efficiency, and delivery.
  • Apply and ensure adherence to company policies.
  • Screen, interview, and hire for openings in collaboration with HR.
  • Recognize performance accomplishments and provide constructive feedback to direct reports.
  • Follow the disciplinary process, address performance issues, and document them appropriately.
  • Recommend and participate in termination decisions.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and salary reviews.
  • Provide input on capital needs to remain competitive in the market.
  • Serve as the Safety Coordinator, developing, training, and implementing a successful safety program.

Requirements

  • Experience in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment for repairing and replacing mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Ability to work independently to troubleshoot, diagnose, and solve issues with process and plant equipment, and implement corrective actions.
  • Experience training teammates on plant operations, quality control procedures, and proper techniques for instrument calibration and maintenance.
  • Understanding of quality standards and health & safety regulations.
  • Ability to estimate costs and prepare budgets.
  • Organize workflow to meet specifications and deadlines.
  • Monitor production to resolve issues.

Qualifications

  • Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work in heated and/or cold warehouse conditions.
  • Knowledge and use of safety and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Occasional travel may be required (typically no longer than a couple of days).
  • 24-hour on-call availability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10-15 years of experience in a production or related management role.
  • Experience with steel mill-related equipment.
