About the Role

The Production Manager is responsible for all areas of Plant Operations under the guidance of the Assistant Plant Manager. These responsibilities include safe, cost-efficient, and timely production of required goods, coordination of materials and inventories, production scheduling, and process improvement and optimization to support the business plan and ensure compliance with all legal requirements. The Production Manager also oversees employee technical skills and standard work development, and collaborates with Management and Accounting to develop and ensure adherence to operational budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, direct, and support a safe and healthy work environment, ensuring all production employees have the information and tools to operate safely and effectively, striving for an incident-free workplace through leadership in safety and full compliance with government and company policies.
  • Effectively manage all aspects of manufacturing to achieve performance targets in safety, quality, and productivity, delivering high-quality products and exceptional customer service efficiently.
  • Build and drive an organizational culture aligned with company core vision and values, delivering Operational Excellence through the Trivium Production System (TPS) model.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and excellence using established guidelines and statistical tools by measuring and analyzing losses, implementing solutions, and controlling effectiveness.
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained and coordinate with Technical Managers to optimize maintenance programs.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and performance management for Operations Team Leads, emphasizing teamwork and problem-solving through regular assessments and communications.
  • Identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Coordinate effective production and crewing schedules while optimizing productivity, quality, and inventory levels, ensuring task division, delegation, and progress monitoring.
  • Support new product development and introduction.
  • Work closely with Operational/Quality management to ensure continuity of the production process.
  • Oversee quality parameters using statistics and address nonconforming products/raw materials via root cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to resolve escalated personnel issues.
  • Manage labor costs, including overtime.
  • Review and approve reports or requests reflecting cost-effectiveness and quality of operations.
  • Define and enforce quantitative production indicators.
  • Produce periodic reports and analysis, providing performance updates as needed.
  • Actively participate in the recruitment and selection of the operations team.
  • Maintain 24/7 internal and external communications to ensure proper operation of all business aspects.
  • Ensure competency in BRC Food Safety Policy, GMPs, HACCP Principles, and BRC Food Safety Standards.
  • Ensure the environmental management system conforms to ISO 14001 requirements and report performance to top management.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate/Technical Degree in a related field with five years of management experience in high-volume manufacturing, including employee screening, performance review, counseling, training, and development; or significant experience in a related/similar field (prior can/end manufacturing experience preferred).
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work through complex problems in a high-volume manufacturing environment with tight tolerances.
  • Ability to effectively communicate up and down the organization.
  • Proven ability to develop strong relationships with employees, peers, and leaders.
  • Systems and continuous improvement orientation.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA guidelines, ISO standards, HACCP, and/or GMP principles preferred.
  • Working knowledge of statistics and Quality metrics.
  • Computer proficiency (Windows, MS Office products, Visio, SAP, and others).
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Understanding of relevant environmental regulations.

Work Environment

This role requires working in an office environment located on the production floor. The noise level outside the office area is usually very loud, and employees must wear hearing protection and all other assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Temperature can range from extreme cold (<40 degrees) to extreme heat (>90 degrees). The atmosphere may contain fumes, dust, and odors.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, talk, or hear. The employee frequently needs to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision as well as color recognition.

Pay

Salary Range: $103,000 - $129,000 (good-faith estimate based on the expected scope of the role and internal equity considerations).
