PAY RANGE: $110,000 – 122,000

Position Summary

This position is accountable for achieving Marine Fabrication production performance. Performance results include, but are not limited to, Safety, Quality, Schedule and Cost KPIs (Key Performance Indicators).

The position will report to the Marine Fabrication Director. Active measures shall be taken to improve all KPIs and assure clear definable mitigation plans shall be established when negative variances occur or are projected.

This position will work in concert and alignment with the production leadership, Programs, and Shared Services Functions to develop work plans designed to achieve performance objectives.

Essential Functions And Major Responsibilities

  • Safety
    • Affirm each work center is tracking and improving safety conditions and issues
    • Utilize daily safety briefs with daily job hazard analysis
    • Use Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
    • Affirm facility and equipment are in serviceable condition
  • Quality
    • Affirm each work center is tracking and improving quality issues
    • Identify and report Condition Found Report (CFR) changes in scope of base work package by initiating/writing the CFR to clearly describe the problem and provide a recommended action/resolution
    • Enforce quality control and tracking programs to meet quality objectives
  • Schedule (SPI)
    • Affirm each work center is tracking and improving schedule issues
    • Manage resources based on project schedules to meet required delivery dates
    • Forecasts and remove roadblocks identified by Supervisors/Foreman/Leads and production workers
  • Cost (CPI)
    • Affirm each work center is tracking and improving labor budget issues
    • Manage resources to maintain labor budgets
    • Resolve issues identified by Supervisors/Foreman/Leads and production workers
  • People
    • Accountable to hire and train diverse and skilled craft personnel to support work within assigned work centers
    • Administer corrective actions as required
    • Communicate production/project status through KPIs to work force
    • Manages subcontract production labor through subcontractor's onsite supervisors
    • Develop and maintain a positive, inclusive work environment for all team members
    • Understands, implements, and enforces company and departmental policies/procedures, and necessary code compliance per applicable project requirements
  • Projects
    • Contribute to the production planning phase of a project and work package creation
    • Understand specification and contractual requirements to ensure work is performed as expected
    • Coordinate with support services personnel to ensure equipment, facility, inventory, material and other required items are available to support work

Job Scope

This position operates within established policies and procedures covering each work station. The individual must have agreement from Marine Fabrication Director to revise standard work practices regarding safety, quality and production. They are accountable to make decisions for selection of supervisors in respective work centers.

The individual is accountable for developing and maintaining a positive, inclusive work environment for all team members. They are accountable for employee training and qualification, ensuring daily maintenance of equipment and upkeep, and 4S activities. The may manage multiple superintendents, supervisors, and various leads responsible for assigned work centers.

The Production Manager I will be required to document corrective actions and conduct performance reviews of staff.

Supervisory Responsibility

The role manages less than 50 craft employees in various skills in numerous work stations. They are accountable for employee training and qualification, ensuring daily maintenance of equipment and upkeep, and 4S activities. The may manage multiple superintendents, supervisors, and various leads responsible for assigned work centers. The Production Manager I will be required to document corrective actions and conduct performance reviews of staff.

Interpersonal Contacts

The individual will interact with other managers in performance of this role and be required to coordinate scope of work with other company priorities. He/she may be required to communicate at all levels within the organization and will also at times interact with customers on shop floors and in meetings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written for constant interaction with all departments and employee levels as well as customers
  • Ability to lead, manage and motivate employees in a production environment
  • Must have the analytical ability to research problem areas and special requests
  • Must be a well-organized, detail-oriented self-starter
  • Ability to read and comprehend work specifications, work orders, blueprints, contracts and technical publications (Gov’t specifications, drawings and federal requirements)
  • Ability to handle competing priorities and deadlines effectively to minimize last minute changes or revisions to expected plans
  • Ability to handle interruptions while maintaining focus in the production environment
  • Must be able to schedule, direct and organize work within a diverse department to maintain efficiency
  • Must possess the ability to facilitate group decision-making, team building and conflict resolution
  • Must be able to react and perform in emergency situations
  • Must be able to use PC and software applications such as MS Office, Excel, and database programs
  • Must be familiar with budgeting, estimating, planning, scheduling principles and material procurement
  • Must be familiar with OSHA and other environmental regulations
  • Must be familiar with various codes and practices associated with the Structural Fabrication or Marine Industry, and be familiar with the resources available to maintain code compliance
  • Knowledge of raw materials
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and standards
  • Knowledge of process improvement techniques
  • Knowledge of business, finance and management principles
  • Knowledge of human resource principles and practices
  • Knowledge of machines and tools
  • Knowledge of engineering and technology principles and practices

Education And/Or Experience

  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience is required
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in heavy industry, marine manufacturing with vessel construction and production environment
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory capacity, with increasing responsibilities
  • The incumbent must have experience and thorough knowledge of production procedures, government regulations, and administrative procedures within a marine program with a background in continuous process improvement
  • The incumbent must have experience and a working knowledge of all specific operations of departments, including all machinery and tools

Physical Demands

  • Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity
  • In total 50% normal office environment and 50% of time spent in production areas in yard
  • This person must be able to walk to and from job sites
  • The person must be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders; to enter confined areas and tanks; or review work at heights
  • The incumbent must be able to frequently bend, squat, crawl, twist and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds
  • They may be required to work more than 8-hour with occasional weekend work
  • There may be local travel and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 5% of the time with notice

  • While in production areas will be exposed to all weather conditions, noise, dusts and odors
