Position Overview
Job Description
- Provide recording and live sound services for special university events that occur for KU School of Music alumni, guest artists, and faculty in Murphy Hall (50%)
- Educate and assist faculty, staff, and students on proper recording and live sound techniques upon request (15%)
- Aid the Technical Director, assistant recording engineer, and outside production entities in recording and editing album recordings by KU Faculty, large KU Ensembles, alum, and visiting performers either through scheduling of student staff, or directly (10%)
- Research and plan for upcoming live sound upgrades; recommend upgrades to increase quality and efficiency (5%)
- Liaise with the Technical Director when repairs are needed in School of Music Performance venues and when repairs are needed for School of Music audio/visual gear (5%)
- Support recruitment efforts and collaborate through service on departmental, college, and university committees (5%)
- Attend interdepartmental production and planning meetings, as requested (5%)
- Other duties as required by supervisor (5%)
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalency with four years of experience in sound engineering technology OR Associates degree in sound design or related field of study and 2 years of experience OR a Bachelor’s degree in sound design or related field of study.
- Minimum of two years of experience in mixing, digital editing, and use of recording machines and related devices.
- One year of supervisory experience.
