About the role

The Production Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining and repairing machinery in a sheet metal fabrication and roll forming operation.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
  • Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
  • Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
  • Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is required; college or technical school is a plus.
  • Previous experience in industrial maintenance is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal machinery and their functions.
  • Strong electrical and hydraulic skills is a plus.
  • Must be able to read blueprints, schematics and drawings.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a maintenance technician role.
  • Minimum 1 year experience with pneumatic systems.
  • Minimum 1 year experience with hydraulic systems.
  • Basic electrical experience.
  • Root cause analysis.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screen.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and write routine job reports/job orders with attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand job instructions.
  • Ability to communicate electronically with basic understanding of computers & programs.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Attention to detail is a requirement.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to interpret, understand, and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Employee must be able to communicate readily and to talk and hear.

Work Environment

  • Occasionally exposed to cold & hot climate conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
  • Frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
  • The noise level in the work environment is occasionally very loud.
