About the role
The Production Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining and repairing machinery in a sheet metal fabrication and roll forming operation.
Responsibilities
- Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
- Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
- Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
- Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
- Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
- Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
- Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
- Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is required; college or technical school is a plus.
- Previous experience in industrial maintenance is preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of sheet metal machinery and their functions.
- Strong electrical and hydraulic skills is a plus.
- Must be able to read blueprints, schematics and drawings.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a maintenance technician role.
- Minimum 1 year experience with pneumatic systems.
- Minimum 1 year experience with hydraulic systems.
- Basic electrical experience.
- Root cause analysis.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to pass background check and drug screen.
Language Skills
- Ability to read and write routine job reports/job orders with attention to detail.
- Ability to understand job instructions.
- Ability to communicate electronically with basic understanding of computers & programs.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Attention to detail is a requirement.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to interpret, understand, and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand.
- The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Employee must be able to communicate readily and to talk and hear.
Work Environment
- Occasionally exposed to cold & hot climate conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
- Frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
- The noise level in the work environment is occasionally very loud.
