About the role
The Production Lead manages a shift team of operations personnel for a designated unit at a site to achieve Business Team plans in a safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound manner. This role has responsibility for and makes operational decisions for a process unit with minimal management support. Typical job titles may include: Shift Team Leader, Process First Line Supervisor (FLS), Shift Leader, or Operations Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and assumes administrative responsibility for operations personnel working on shift; acts as management's representative to a wage team on nights and weekends.
- Ensures adequate shift team competency level to conduct required operations and effectively interfaces with other Shift Team Leaders to transition status and objectives across shifts.
- Directly supervises the deployment of personnel and all work activities in the field operational unit to achieve Business Team objectives; mentors less experienced Shift Team Leaders and step-ups.
- Manages the unit shift team to ensure production targets (volume, yield, and quality) are met and shift instructions are carried out.
- Ensures all employees and contractors meet applicable personnel and process safety, security, health, and environment (SSHE) requirements.
- Upholds consistent SSHE standards to achieve loss-free field and control room operations through Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS) tools, including OCVM, Verification and Validation (V&V), and Loss Prevention Self-assessment (LPSA).
- Effectively utilizes all Loss Prevention System (LPS) tools and conducts monthly stewardships with Technicians.
- Responsible for procedural reviews, safety planning, and execution; ensures safe work permits are written and executed to achieve loss-free performance.
- Performs field V&V of activity execution and advises the shift team on troubleshooting and process safety considerations for abnormal/non-routine operations.
- Serves as the single decision point for urgent safety-critical operating decisions to bring the unit/equipment into a safe position to protect personnel and equipment.
- Ensures unit shift team readiness for Emergency Response through planned and impromptu drills; oversees emergency response contingency plans and activities with minimal management support during initial response.
- Initiates investigation of unit safety, operational, quality, and environmental incidents as appropriate; provides initial case management for all injuries and informs relevant management.
- Creates a high-performing team on their shift; measures shift team performance and stewards results to unit management.
- Leads the shift team through Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS) and performs field verifications (personal V&V, OCVM, Standard Operator Interface (SOI), etc.) to ensure effectiveness and sustainment.
- Stewards IMPACT reports to ensure appropriate data entry and responsibilities are assigned for adequate follow-up; identifies gaps and implements improvements.
- Accountable for maintaining high levels of unit reliability, cost-effective operations, and/or product movements to generate cash/profits for the company.
- Ensures standards of Operator Care, Operations Excellence, and housekeeping are upheld and verified on the unit.
- Ensures shift team activities comply with the Global Product Quality Management System (GPQMS).
- Networks with other Shift Team Leaders at the site to establish best practices and promote consistency; may participate in regional Networks/Communities of Practice (COPs).
- Understands the site's labor strategy and manages labor relations within the assigned area.
- May participate in the planning and execution of unit turnarounds and work associated with unit modifications or other project work.
- May establish and steward contractor performance expectations and oversee contractor work activities to ensure alignment with contractual requirements and Company expectations.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a closely related position.
- Strong operational knowledge of the Oil and Gas industry.
- Proven leadership and coaching skills, including experience managing a team.
- Previous operating experience, either onshore or offshore, along with a good understanding of safety management.
