About the Role

Effectively and efficiently run the production line to achieve the master schedule while maintaining good quality. Enforce Good Manufacturing and Safety practices as outlined by company policy.

Responsibilities

  • Work and act safely in accordance with all policies and report safety hazards.
  • Direct team members on the line, ensuring they perform their jobs correctly. Conduct consistent reviews and make adjustments as needed. Create "line ups" for each rotation or product change and assign clean-up tasks.
  • Set and adjust belt speeds based on production needs (e.g., increase speed for gaps, decrease if team members cannot keep up).
  • Direct line operators and workers during changeovers, adjust finishing department equipment, or call maintenance when necessary.
  • Complete all required paperwork throughout the shift, including master sheets, downtime records, lot numbers, damage reports, label check-offs, and packer check-offs.
  • Enforce Good Manufacturing Practices by maintaining clean work areas and equipment.
  • Monitor equipment performance and report damaged or faulty equipment to maintenance or a supervisor.
  • Inspect cake quality constantly, checking packaging, labels, and cartons to ensure compliance with specifications. Report any deviations to a supervisor or Quality Assurance (QA).
  • Solve problems proactively, anticipate needs, and respond quickly to unexpected situations.
  • Monitor and record cake component weights, total cake weights, metal detector checks, and label checks.
  • Maintain constant communication with the baking lead and supervisor regarding production issues (e.g., gaps, sticking cakes, damage).
  • Train and evaluate employees as needed and monitor their hours.
  • Motivate team members through positive reinforcement.
  • Ensure products meet SQF Food Safety Code requirements by reporting any conditions that could negatively affect product quality, food safety, or regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as backup for other Production Leads, Backup Leads, and Production Supervisors.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic math skills, ability to read and write English, and basic computer skills (including scanner gun operation).
  • Manual dexterity and ability to perform repetitive motions regularly.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, including frequent bending, stooping, walking, and lifting/moving up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to work over 40 hours per week and 8 hours per day; overtime is required.
  • Must be able to stand for a full shift.
  • Must be able to work in a hot environment.
  • Must be able to tolerate potential allergens: peanut products, egg, dairy, gluten, soy, seafood, and shellfish.
