Production Lead (2nd Shift, Mon.-Thurs. 4x10)
About the role
Mueller Water Products, Inc. is seeking a Production Lead for a 2nd shift position at our Kimball, TN facility. This position reports to the Area Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Act as a first point of contact for all area employees regarding issues and questions related to your department
- Aids in the assignment of work at the direction of the area supervisor ensuring efficient flow
- Trains or assists in training new employees
- Maintains a high degree of morale among employees of their department identifying and flagging potential employee relations issues
- Recommends changes in methods, procedures, and equipment deemed necessary to maintain maximum efficiency in their department
- Collaborates with engineering department on process and product improvement along with strategies used for production
- Provides regular reporting and updates to supervisors and managers as requested

- Responsible for coordinating with other area leads and supervisors as needed
- Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces
- Performs quality control checks and verification of work order specifications
- Raises safety concerns pre-emptively and ensures area PPE and safeguards are in use appropriately
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions
- Routes employee relations issues appropriately and timely
- Reports any policy violations, unsafe activity, or activity that falls outside of the Mueller code of conduct
- Provides real-time feedback to employees regarding production work
- Maintain continuity among work shifts in pass off procedure by documenting actions, irregularities, and continuing operational needs, as well as communicating issues or irregularities to appropriate team lead or supervisor
- Maintain appropriate operational documentation, including production and quality logs
- Ensures work areas and department are clean and organized
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to all relevant safety guidelines, procedures, and regulations and flagging any equipment or safety issues to the appropriate team lead, supervisor, maintenance, or EHS personnel utilizing “Stop, Call, Wait” procedure
- Performs other tasks as assigned
Requirements
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Able to communicate at various levels within the organization
- Strong personal commitment to safety standards in industrial and/or manufacturing environments
- Read blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, and machining parameters, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)
- Basic computer skills including the use of Office Suite and email
- Previous use and understanding of an MRP system
- Advanced math skills with the ability to understand measuring/measurement concepts and their applications
- Strong ability to train others on multiple processes and procedures in production environments
- Familiarity with basic and advanced tools of measuring and when to use for inspection of parts
- Must be organized, detail oriented
- Follow and explain detailed verbal and written area instructions, processes, and procedures
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
- 3-5 years leading others in a manufacturing setting – or – 10 years working in a manufacturing or industrial setting
Physical Requirements
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety glasses, steel-toed or metatarsal-guarded shoes, and/or ear plugs, while working in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and reach within hands and/or arm’s length
- Ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch
- Ability to reach overhead or at or below shoulder level
- Ability to ascend or descend ladders or steps in confined spaces, as required by work area
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects between 25 and 50 pounds in weight in all directions
- Ability to remain in stationary or standing position for prolonged periods and to alternate between positions as necessary
- Ability to repeat gross or fine manipulation that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Ability to perform close visual inspections of products, which may include specific vision requirements
- Ability to clearly see pedestrians and objects, which may include specific vision requirements
- Ability to work in an open warehouse environment, subject to seasonal weather (hot/cold)
- Ability to safely operate standing and sit-down power industrial trucks (PIT), and other similar and advanced industrial equipment
