About the role
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Production Engineering Manager to lead the development and improvement of new automation equipment and Electrode lines of our LFP Cell manufacturing operations. The role involves managing a team of engineers responsible for equipment and process-related metrics, driving improvements in overall equipment efficiency and factory yield, and sustaining 24/7 production operations to meet build plan targets.
Responsibilities
- Lead Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) assurance functions, including safety training, incident documentation, hazard correction, and continuous improvement of operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in the commissioning, start of production, and ramp-up of high-volume LFP manufacturing operations.
- Sustain 24/7 production operations to meet build plan targets, demonstrating competitive Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Define and drive improvement activities for manufacturing line performance from inception through closure using engineering resources.
- Focus on improving process and equipment-related metrics.
- Innovate processes and procedures to streamline production activities.
- Enforce strict 5S standards and maintain cleanliness on the production floor and within automation cells.
- Support new equipment installation, startup, handover, and improve preventative maintenance activities to decrease downtime.
- Observe all safety policies during task execution.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and controls teams to install and troubleshoot new processes and equipment.
Requirements
- Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years in a highly automated, high-volume manufacturing facility.
- Good understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Safety, Ergonomics, Change Point Management, and Spare Parts Management.
- Understanding of general manufacturing processes, automation, and controls.
- Must demonstrate reliability, initiative, and desire to learn.
- Adaptable in work schedule (including compressed work week and night shift) and working environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail, flexibility, and prioritization.
- Capable of providing constructive feedback to subordinates.
- Able to drive engineering problems to true root cause and elimination.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to constant change.
