Production Engineer

About the Role

The Production Engineer is a multi-skilled position responsible for all activities associated with the production and operation of paper machine equipment. This includes proactively assisting co-workers with setting up, operating, problem-solving, and maintaining production of paper-making equipment and processes in a 24/7 operation working 12-hour shifts in a 4-shift rotational concept.

Duties include ensuring adherence to directives and procedures, ensuring all materials are available, proper set-up of equipment, completing necessary reports accurately and timely, and assisting in preventative machine maintenance. The Production Engineer will follow all established safe work practices.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, control, and adjust machines, equipment, and processes
• Demonstrate a proven record of learning aptitude
• Participate in ongoing educational certificate training programs provided
• Maintain housekeeping, including washing up, sweeping, and shoveling debris
• Apply working knowledge of equipment design for process troubleshooting
• Perform "hands-on" mechanical tasks to conduct small repairs of paper mill equipment
• Perform physical testing of raw materials or finished product
• Conduct continuous fast-paced walking rounds of the work area
• Train other employees and receive training in multiple disciplines throughout the plant
• Interpret data from computer systems and input data from various sources as needed
• Perform other tasks as required by Mill Management
• Become proficient in all job areas within the mill

Requirements

• Post-secondary educational degree (2 to 4-year degree from college, university, technical school, military, vocational, or other advanced educational institution) or equivalent real-world experience
• Previous papermaking experience is not necessary
• Ability to communicate orally with team members and understand instructions in written, oral, or graphic form
• Understand complex procedural and process designs, read a tape measure accurately, interpret process flow diagrams, gauges, and operate a calculator for basic mathematical computations
• Possess a working knowledge of basic computer use and light general maintenance
• Must be able to stand for long periods and have good mobility
• Must be ultra-cognizant of surroundings and potential hazards
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds (non-repetitively), climb stairs, climb ladders, and use hand tools
• No known chemical sensitivity and ability to function in extreme temperatures
• Pass pre-employment drug testing/screening, background checks, and physical exam
• Pass an initial 4 to 5-month paid classroom training and practical application segment
• Complete practical application segment requiring some advanced training out-of-state (Indiana or Ohio)
• Wear all required Personal Prote Equipment (glasses, ear plugs, shoes, gloves, etc.)
