About the role

Huish Outdoors is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Production Engineer with solid experience in breathing airway apparatuses to support our growing organization and product lines. Engineers at Huish Outdoors work with a vast array of product categories, materials, and manufacturing techniques, including high-precision machining, plastic injection molding, and technical textiles. This role involves developing improved production processes, work instructions, fixtures, and analyzing workflows for operational efficiency. You will collaborate with global engineering teams, manage incoming components, and validate quality concerns. The Production Engineer provides critical feedback to design teams to ensure new products are designed for manufacturing, helping to create innovative, high-quality products that dominate our market.

Responsibilities

  • Design and document production workflows and process optimization.
  • Design, implement, and optimize systems that convert raw materials into finished goods.
  • Develop fixture design, tooling requirements, and assembly design using SolidWorks suite and PDM.
  • Test new products and materials, verifying design outputs.
  • Develop and improve work/operating procedures in collaboration with Quality Assurance, ensuring clarity and efficiency.
  • Implement quality assurance methods to meet product standards within the assembly process.
  • Collaborate with Product Development for sourcing new materials and driving continuous improvement of products.
  • Research, source, and install machinery, tools, and fixtures to optimize output, including coordinating preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Lead root cause analysis for equipment failures or production-related problems, implementing corrective and preventative measures.
  • Ensure adherence to processes and procedures by working with Production teams, auditing manufacturing processes for scalability and sustainability.
  • Create engineering drawings for manufacturing partners and maintain accurate recordkeeping.
  • Identify and implement automated systems, including robotics and computer-integrated technology, to increase production speed and reduce human error.
  • Collaborate with production partners outside of North American time zones.
  • Travel 25-35% as needed, including international travel to production locations (valid passport recommended).
  • Perform physical activities such as sitting or standing for long periods, walking through production areas, and lifting up to 20 lbs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years' experience in medical, aerospace, or similar industry preferred.
  • 3+ years' experience with airways, specifically for scuba diving, and an excellent understanding of breathing apparatuses that assist individuals to breathe underwater.
  • Working knowledge of general dimensioning and tolerances of technical drawings (machining and finishing).
  • Demonstrated success in assembly line setup, configuration, measurement metrics, and optimization techniques, including time studies to validate labor requirements.
  • Ability to define workflows via flowcharts.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Kaizen principles.
  • Skilled at technical writing in English; previous experience preferred.
  • Regulatory adherence: Ensuring all manufacturing processes comply with government laws, safety regulations, and environmental policies.
  • Safety Standards: Identifying potential hazards and developing safety protocols (e.g., Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) or Job Safety Analysis (JSA)).
  • Experience in production facility engagement, component validation, and quality control.
  • Understanding of fluid dynamics, pressure vessel design, and metallurgy is desirable.
  • Experience with CNC machined products and machining processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of SolidWorks suite and ability to maintain detailed revision controls.
  • Expert ability to communicate effectively, including providing clear, constructive feedback.
  • Proficiency in a foreign language (e.g., Spanish or Mandarin) is useful but not required.
  • Expert ability to solve strategic problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Demonstrated success managing projects to completion with minimal oversight and against aggressive timelines.
  • Expert ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
