Production Control Operator

Starting pay: $24.15/hour. Shift differential: $0.50/hour for day shift and $2.50/hour for night shift.

Responsibilities

• Follow work instructions, procedures, and product specifications; add specified amounts of raw materials into vessels or blending tanks; set valves to feed liquid and solid materials through equipment units.
• Set controls in specified sequence on control panel to start automatic feed.
• Weigh out quantities of powdered or liquid chemicals, following formula sheets.
• Start and monitor feed of solid or semi-solid materials through equipment units, such as mills, heating vessels, and mixing tanks.
• Dump pre-weighed ingredients into tanks, hoppers, or ball/continuous mills.
• Adjust controls and valves to maintain system at specified temperature, pressure, and vacuum levels.
• Observe chemical reactions; monitor gauges, samples, and data recorders; receive notifications to make specified operating adjustments.
• Regulate temperatures, pressures, and flow of steam, coolant, and chemical constituents through the system to effect prescribed reactions within critical limits.
• Draw samples of products at specified stages of synthesis and perform standard tests to ensure manufacturing proceeds efficiently and conforms to specifications.
• Attach hoses, pumps, or transfer equipment to move completed slurry to holding area or manufacturing coating equipment.
• Calculate additives and dilutions required for batches in support of the ready-to-coat process.
• Read and make decisions based on process parameter sheets in support of ready-to-coat.
• Own and manage the sampling process to ensure all samples are representative of what is in the storage tanks (including knowledge of foam/mixing issues, sample cups, and procedures).
• Carry out required ready-to-coat tasks provided by the targeters.
• Learn the slurry bench process and serve as a backup to the process tech.
• Understand the basics of the targeting process to ensure work is documented correctly.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

• Regular exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
• Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration.
• Loud noise level in the work environment.
• Regularly required to use hands and fingers, handle and feel, reach with hands and arms.
• Frequently required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, bend, and climb stairs.
• Frequently move hoses and drums, lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Use of personal protection equipment required, including safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, and gloves.
• Use of respirators and splash protection may be required.
• May be required to work mandatory overtime and/or twelve-hour shifts.

Must be able to work with minimal supervision, deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations, and perform tasks requiring multiple steps. Ability to operate complex machines, often including intermediate computer skills, and demonstrate enhanced troubleshooting skills within the assigned process.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2 years’ work experience in a production/manufacturing plant.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years’ experience in a chemical operations plant.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
• Demonstrated enhanced math and/or science ability.
