Production Coating Operator

About the role

This role will be responsible for running one or more operational pieces of equipment, including the coating line and slitter area. You will load and unload rolls, maintain a supply of hot melts to the coating head, and monitor process parameters.

Responsibilities

• Uphold company safety, environmental, and quality standards.
• Contribute to meeting KPIs by focusing efforts to achieve targets.
• Set up, operate, monitor, and adjust machines for quality production, and perform routine machine maintenance.
• Meet production standards and operate all hosts on the machine.
• Read and interpret work orders to understand project requirements.
• Operate coating equipment under the guidance of the Shift Supervisor/Lead Coater following SOPs.
• Work with team members to conduct rapid changeovers on the coating lines.
• Complete production paperwork and data entry into SAP accurately and timely.
• Perform visual inspections of semi-finished or finished products for quality.
• Notify Shift Supervisor/Lead Coater of any product quality or mechanical issues.
• Perform operator and preventive maintenance as defined by the Maintenance Department and SOPs.
• Conduct daily safety and equipment checks.
• Perform ongoing quality inspections and report non-conforming products.
• Use hand tools, small power tools, pallet jack, fork truck, and drum handling equipment properly.
• Collaborate with coworkers across all functions, particularly with lead coater operator, shift supervisor, and packer.
• Maintain work area(s) and equipment in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
• Ensure clear paths to aisles, fire extinguishers, eye-wash stations, and emergency exits.
• Follow and give written and oral instructions/communication, and work without close supervision.
• Train new employees as instructed.
• Assist with inventory count as needed.
• Work overtime, including Saturdays and/or Sundays as required.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Work Environment

• Work in a manufacturing setting with exposure to moving mechanical parts, odors, fumes, and airborne particles.
• Exposure to extreme heat and humidity.
• Noise levels in the plant can be loud in some areas.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to communicate (see/hear/speak), stand, walk, reach at waist level, and firmly grasp items.
• Frequently lift and carry up to 25 lbs. on a repetitive basis without mechanical assistance.
• Push and pull up to 420 lbs. with mechanical assistance.
• Reach overhead and use hands for simple grasp and fine manipulation.
• Climb ladders.
• Occasionally balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb stairs.
• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance.
• Reach below waist level with hands and arms.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent with basic math, written, and oral communication skills.
• Mechanical skills or aptitude.
• Previous machine operating experience preferred.
• Ability to use calculator, computer, and measuring tools.
• Knowledge of the metric system preferred.
• Capable of earning and maintaining a forklift license.
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively with others.
• Must be able to work any hours as required, including overtime on Saturdays and/or Sundays.
• Must be able to work within the framework of 6S, ISO, and IATF requirements.
