The Night Shift Production & Inventory Control Supervisor leads the night shift production team to meet customer needs and achieve standards related to safety, quality, cost, line efficiencies, waste, productivity, inventory accuracy, and material control. This role serves as the primary operational leader for the facility during night shift operations, ensuring operational discipline and inventory integrity. Responsibilities include production execution, employee leadership, inventory accuracy, ERP transaction compliance, warehouse coordination, and shift-to-shift communication.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the night shift production team and budgeted staffing levels.
  • Leads employee development by creating and implementing standardized work processes and structured training plans.
  • Drives accountability for safety, quality, productivity, inventory accuracy, and operational performance.
  • Leads cross-functional improvement initiatives to improve quality, streamline efficiencies, and reduce operating expenses.
  • Manages employee performance by providing coaching as well as timely, direct, complete, and actionable positive and corrective feedback.
  • Participates in the development and execution of operational strategy.
  • Operates at or below budgeted production costs utilizing lean manufacturing principles.
  • Drives team production goals and efficiency to ensure all production requirements are met.
  • Tracks productivity for measured shift efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Serves as the primary night shift owner for inventory accuracy and material control.
  • Oversees adherence to inventory control procedures to ensure inventory accuracy goals are consistently achieved.
  • Ensures all production-related inventory transactions are completed accurately and timely within ERP/WMS systems.
  • Oversees material staging, lot tracking, FIFO compliance, barcode scanning, and material consumption accuracy.
  • Leads nightly inventory reconciliation activities and investigates inventory discrepancies, material variances, and transactional errors.
  • Coordinates closely with Planning, Warehouse, Inventory Control, Maintenance, and Quality teams to ensure operational alignment.
  • Supports cycle counts, inventory investigations, and corrective action activities related to inventory variances.
  • Ensures accurate completion of production, inventory, labor, and payroll-related documentation and paperwork.
  • Fosters a continuous improvement mindset, elevating new ideas and executing plans to positively impact plant operations and goals.
  • Troubleshoots processing and packaging equipment, making minor and major adjustments as needed.
  • Follows all safety procedures and participates in safety training. Maintains safe and efficient use of equipment, tools, and personnel.
  • Supports and complies with GMPs and follows all food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures the operation is providing food-safe, quality products which meet or exceed all product specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Serves as the primary operational leader during night shift hours and independently manages operational issues, staffing concerns, inventory risks, and escalation communication.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of prior work experience in a manufacturing facility, preferably in the food or beverage industry.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience in manufacturing operations required.
  • Experience with inventory control, warehouse operations, or material management strongly preferred.
  • BA/BS in Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or related STEM degree preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics AX / D365 preferred.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Knowledge of GFSI audit schemes such as BRC and SQF.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly communicate with all levels of management.
