Key Responsibilities
- Develop a foundational understanding of Voya’s technology, products, and customer use cases.
- Develop and own a sequenced safety and certification strategy for Voya’s generator products, aligned to product milestones.
- Map and forecast the safety, certification, and permitting requirements that Voya will likely encounter.
- Identify potential roadblocks and barriers early and design the path through them.
- Help translate safety and regulatory requirements into product requirements.
- Partner with engineering, commercial, and product teams to ensure plans and timelines align with viable certification pathways.
- Develop the safety and certification narrative for use with external stakeholders, including customers, regulators, AHJs, investors, and the public.
- Monitor the evolving regulatory, standards, and permitting landscape to ensure Voya’s strategy remains relevant and current.
- Participate fully in the company safety program.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in regulatory affairs, product safety, certification, or product compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physical sciences, or a related technical field required. Substantial experience in hardware product safety, certification, or technical regulatory strategy may substitute for a degree.
- Background in regulated hardware and systems such as energy storage, EVs, distributed generation, fuel cells, microgrids, or grid-tied power, with the judgment to know when various standards and frameworks should apply.
- Track record of developing safety and certification strategy, not only executing existing roadmaps.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to turn technical safety and regulatory work into a clear, credible story and a competitive asset, not just procedural details.
- Direct experience working with NRTLs, AHJs, utilities, and other external stakeholders to successfully certify and deploy hardware.
- Experience working cross-functionally, including with product, engineering, and commercial teams.
- Experience with novel product categories or first-of-a-kind regulatory pathways a plus.
- Familiarity with defense-sector regulatory considerations a plus.
- Able to make material progress despite evolving and developing requirements.
