Certification Engineer- Compliance and Product Safety
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit regulatory certification documentation and test reports to third-party agencies (UL, CSA, ETL, etc.)
- Cook up regulatory submissions and manage certification projects from initiation through approval, including scheduling and tracking with test labs
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, Bill of materials and change notices to determine certification requirements and develop project scope
- Maintain certification files, test records, internal compliance databases, and project tracking tools
- Monitor project timelines and ensure timely completion of certification activities
- Organize, track, pack, and ship samples to external test laboratories as needed
- Support product development teams by providing compliance guidance for new products and design changes, and communicate required corrective actions
- Participate in industry working groups such as AHAM and HVI committees, and maintain awareness of updates to applicable UL and other regulatory standards and communicate impacts to the team
- Track certification-related invoices, maintain budget tracker and maintain certifications/listings, including renewals and annual reporting
- Support sustainability-related compliance initiatives, including energy efficiency, RoHS requirements, and environmental compliance expectations.
- Prepare and submit documentation for regulatory programs such as EPA, HVI, and CARB
- Drive process improvements, including use of AI tools, to improve certification efficiency and compliance documentation workflows
- Other duties as assigned
Testing Support
- Perform limited in-house compliance and pre-compliance testing as needed (heat rise, power input, leakage current, endurance, abnormal operation, and basic environmental evaluations)
- Aid in evaluating products for compliance with applicable standards such as UL 507, UL 1278, UL 1004, UL 746C, and UL/CSA 60335
- Support troubleshooting activities and maintain basic test equipment's
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred
- 1–3 years of experience in compliance, certification, testing, or related engineering role preferred
- Ability to review engineering documents such as BOMs, assembly drawings, and electrical schematics
- Strong documentation skills with attention to detail for regulatory submissions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word for documentation and tracking
- Ability to coordinate with external labs and manage certification timelines
- Basic hands-on skills to support limited in-house testing, including safe use of hand tools
- Familiarity with regulatory standards (UL, CSA, ETL etc.) is a plus
- Experience with regulatory submissions (UL, EPA, HVI, CARB) is a plus
- Experience applying sustainability and environmental compliance requirements in a product compliance setting
- Familiarity with AI tools for documentation and workflow efficiency is a plus
