Product Owner – Claims Innovation & Workflow Solutions
About the role
The Product Owner will help modernize claims capabilities across the Commercial P&C claims lifecycle, with a focus on workflow improvement, intelligent automation, operational efficiency, and scalable digital solutions.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Claims, Underwriting, Operations, Legal/Litigation, Finance, Technology, and the Product Manager to define the claims product vision, strategy, roadmap, and business outcomes.
- Own roadmap sequencing across claims capabilities, balancing quick wins with foundational improvements in workflow consistency, data quality, governance, usability, performance, and reuse.
- Identify and prioritize opportunities for workflow automation, straight-through processing, document and data intelligence, platform integration, and AI-enabled decision support.
- Use product and operational analytics to guide prioritization and measure success through KPIs such as cycle time, touchless rates, leakage, reserve accuracy, adjuster productivity, adoption, and customer satisfaction.
- Apply systems thinking to assess upstream and downstream impacts across Claims, Underwriting, Finance, Operations, and Technology.
- Own and continuously refine the claims product backlog based on business value, regulatory needs, stakeholder feedback, dependencies, team capacity, usage data, and product outcomes.
- Translate business needs into clear features, acceptance criteria, process flows, business rules, workflow requirements, test scenarios, and solution direction.
- Work with architecture, engineering, data, AI/ML, QA, and business SMEs to break complex claims and automation needs into scalable, deliverable increments.
- Use modern product practices, including Now / Next / Later planning, to communicate priorities and maintain delivery focus.
- Serve as the primary product contact for claims solution needs across claim types, lines of business, and shared claims functions.
- Lead discovery sessions and workshops to understand workflows, pain points, decision-support needs, process gaps, and automation opportunities.
- Align stakeholders on business process, technical constraints, dependencies, implementation tradeoffs, and adoption impacts.
- Partner with training and change management teams to support rollout readiness and adoption of new capabilities.
- Promote a customer- and adjuster-centric mindset that improves usability, consistency, efficiency, and ease of doing business.
- Lead sprint planning and backlog refinement by articulating sprint goals, priorities, expected business value, and readiness criteria.
- Ensure features are refined before development with sufficient business context, workflow logic, acceptance criteria, and validation needs.
- Partner with delivery leads, engineers, analysts, designers, QA, data, and AI/ML teams to deliver high-quality releases.
- Participate in standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to monitor progress, remove blockers, validate completed work, and drive continuous improvement.
- Coordinate user acceptance testing and confirm solutions meet claims needs, acceptance criteria, and quality standards.
Qualifications / Education And Experience
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Technical Product Owner, Senior Business Analyst, Product Manager, or similar role.
- 2-3+ years of hands-on claims experience with exposure to end-to-end claims operations.
- Experience delivering claims transformation, modernization, platform replacement, workflow automation, or operational improvement initiatives strongly preferred.
- Experience delivering AI-enabled or intelligent-workflow solutions, such as intelligent intake, document/image intelligence, automated triage, fraud/SIU detection, or decision support, strongly preferred.
- Experience with claims platforms such as Guidewire ClaimCenter, Duck Creek, Majesco, or similar valued; Guidewire ClaimCenter experience preferred but not required.
- 2-3+ years of P&C insurance experience, preferably Commercial and/or E&S.
- Experience working with engineering, architecture, data, QA, and business teams in Agile delivery environments required.
- Strong understanding of P&C claims operations, including FNOL, triage, coverage evaluation, adjudication, reserving, payments, recovery/subrogation, litigation, vendor/TPA management, and closure.
- Working knowledge of AI and intelligent automation use cases in claims, including related data, governance, responsible-AI, and change-management considerations.
- Strong product acumen, systems thinking, analytical ability, problem solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to simplify complex business problems, define practical solution paths, and translate needs into scalable workflows, requirements, and solution designs.
- Strong knowledge of Agile product ownership, backlog management, release validation, and cross-functional delivery practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Power BI, Copilot, Azure DevOps, Teams, ChatGPT, and similar productivity tools preferred.
Salary
The estimated salary range for this position is $140,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year. This is a good-faith assessment of the salary range for this position only. In determining the actual salary within this range, MSIG USA will consider a candidate’s relevant experience, location, and other job-related factors.
