About the Role
This position is responsible for maintaining and improving customer drawings of parts for sheet metal fabricated components and assemblies, developing manufacturing-friendly products, and ensuring drawings meet external, internal, and regulatory requirements. The role involves program management, issue tracking, and coordination to ensure successful production startup, launch, and ramp-up. The position also focuses on shortening the development cycle through upfront marketing activities and leading customer communications for technical concerns.
Responsibilities
- Conceptualize and model improvements for customer drawings in PTC CREO.
- Analyze and engineer models to achieve part function, performance, and durability.
- Identify, analyze, and mitigate risk in the engineering process by setting controls (e.g., DFMEA).
- Review product specifications and confirm unclear points with the customer, considering statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Determine manufacturability and perform FEA/CAE analysis, informing stakeholders of results.
- Support and assist engineering reviews, compile test results, and maintain evaluation records.
- Coordinate activities with outside vendors and travel as necessary to meet with vendors and customers.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to resolve manufacturing problems and drive continuous improvement of productivity, methods, processes, and quality.
- Advance standardization of engineering administrative functions, including BOM development, EPICOR/CMS systems, documentation, and processes.
- Coordinate and perform audits to test system effectiveness for Product Quality.
- Address system breakdowns and failures when controls are missing or ineffective.
- Notify impacted groups early when issues may escalate in severity or frequency, emphasizing early detection and resolution.
- Identify critical operations and establish process controls to prevent and eliminate errors.
- Stay updated on manufacturing technology to enhance safety, quality, and productivity.
- Lead kaizen activities for process improvement or system changes as required by the annual strategic plan.
- Establish and monitor budget items associated with shop expenses, factory spend, and critical items.
Requirements
- Advanced degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or Technology (preferred).
- Ability to create parametric models (smart models), including surface modeling, free-form modeling, and solid modeling.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data integrity issues.
- Create drawings, subassemblies, and part-child relationships in the CAD data structure.
- Read blueprints (GD&T), interpret customer drawings, and evaluate specifications.
- Work effectively in teams and demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and proficiency in documenting results and procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, MS Project, and PTC CREO.
- Adhere to Quality, Safety, and Environmental policies.
- Able to work flexible hours and overtime as required.

- Regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls.
- Frequently required to talk or hear, stand, bend, and walk.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
