Product Manager: Whitelabel & Sourced Tools
About the role
iFixit is the nexus of a global community showing people how to fix the things they own. We believe that we can make the world better by empowering people to take control of the things they own. We are the world's foremost experts in repair, and we've set the gold-standard for online repair documentation. Every day we help thousands of people fix their stuff, and we’re on a mission to help millions more.
We're looking for a talented, business-minded person to manage iFixit's whitelabel and third-party tool resale program. iFixit engineers most of our own tools, but a significant portion of our catalog comes from established manufacturers whose products we whitelabel or resell because they're genuinely the right tool for a repair. As a product manager, you'll be working alongside the engineering, procurement, and compliance teams to find gaps in our catalog, source manufacturers, negotiate deals, and manage products from first sample through launch.
Responsibilities
- Research the repair market and our own catalog for product gaps worth filling, and write the proposals that make the case
- Source manufacturers (domestic and overseas), and negotiate pricing, MOQs, tooling, and payment terms
- Build landed-cost models and propose retail pricing across our web store, Amazon, and wholesale
- Guide each product through compliance, packaging, barcodes, and launch
- Evaluate product samples hands-on
- Monitor sales and margins, and drive price changes, re-sourcing, and end-of-life decisions
Requirements
- Experience sourcing product and negotiating with overseas manufacturers
- A head for the business side: market research, negotiation, margin math
- Clear written communication, especially with non-native English speakers
- Ability to manage many projects simultaneously
- Excellent spreadsheet skills
Qualifications
Candidates get bonus points for the following:
- Experience with product lifecycles, BOM management, revisions
- Private-label or store-brand program experience
- Experience with NetSuite or another ERP
- Familiarity with consumer product compliance (REACH, Prop 65, safety certifications)
- Amazon marketplace and GS1 barcode experience
Skills
Some key personality traits that we'd like to see:
- Self-motivation and diligent work ethic
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Passionate about repair
- Creative problem solving
- Ability to learn new things very quickly
- Ability to work well with others, accept feedback, and change directions if needed
