Product Manager – Portfolio Management

Remote role transforming how a large enterprise plans, prioritizes, funds, and executes work across the organization. The position operates at the intersection of strategy, planning, operations, and execution, treating portfolio management as a product requiring redesign, alignment, adoption, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate annual portfolio planning and budgeting activities.
  • Drive quarterly planning cycles and establish repeatable planning processes.
  • Define planning frameworks that align investments, resources, priorities, and organizational objectives.
  • Establish portfolio governance structures, decision-making processes, and success metrics.
  • Partner with finance and business leaders to align budgets, capacity, and strategic priorities.
  • Develop structured approaches for evaluating, prioritizing, and sequencing initiatives.
  • Facilitate trade-off discussions across competing priorities and limited resources.
  • Establish clear criteria for investment decisions and portfolio commitments.
  • Ensure business outcomes, strategic objectives, and resource allocations remain aligned.
  • Assess organizational capacity against portfolio demand.
  • Identify resource gaps, constraints, and investment opportunities.
  • Create forecasting and capacity planning models that provide visibility into staffing, funding, and delivery risk.
  • Analyze budget versus capacity deltas and provide recommendations for optimization.
  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of current portfolio management practices, tooling, governance, planning processes, and organizational alignment.
  • Challenge existing assumptions and identify opportunities to simplify, modernize, and improve portfolio operations.
  • Design and socialize a future-state operating model focused on accountability, transparency, and execution excellence.
  • Develop roadmaps and recommendations for implementation.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of quarterly planning, portfolio review, and execution cadences.
  • Define the purpose, outcomes, and value of portfolio review and commitment activities.
  • Create mechanisms that increase accountability, predictability, and execution success.
  • Establish portfolio metrics, dashboards, and reporting frameworks.
  • Assess current portfolio management tools and processes across teams.
  • Evaluate platforms such as Dragonboat, Jira Align, Aha!, Planview, ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management, and related solutions.
  • Recommend standardized tooling approaches to improve visibility, alignment, prioritization, and reporting.
  • Partner with stakeholders to drive adoption of recommended tools and practices.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership teams, portfolio owners, and delivery organizations.
  • Facilitate alignment across cross-functional teams, including Product, Technology, Operations, Finance, HR, Workplace, and Corporate Services.
  • Drive consensus among stakeholders with competing priorities.
  • Communicate portfolio health, risks, recommendations, and outcomes to senior leadership.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in Product Management, Portfolio Management, Strategic Planning, Program Management, or related disciplines.
  • Proven experience leading enterprise portfolio planning and prioritization processes.
  • Strong understanding of annual planning, budgeting, quarterly planning, and investment governance.
  • Experience with resource planning, capacity management, forecasting, and financial alignment.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence executives and drive organizational alignment.
  • Experience assessing and improving portfolio management operating models.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within large-scale technology organizations.
  • Experience supporting enterprise shared services functions such as HR, Workplace, IT, Employee Experience, or Corporate Services.
  • Knowledge of Agile Portfolio Management and Lean Portfolio Management principles.
  • Expertise with portfolio management solutions such as Dragonboat, Planview, Jira Align, Aha!, ServiceNow SPM, or similar platforms.
  • Experience driving organizational change and operating model transformations.
  • MBA or equivalent business strategy experience.
