Product Engineer IV
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation for new products and product revisions
- Translate customer requirements and product concepts into reliable, manufacturable designs
- Manage bills of materials, dimensional tolerances, and engineering specifications for assigned products
- Evaluate and process Engineering Change Requests and Engineering Change Orders
- Build and test prototypes and conduct design validation and process validation testing
- Lead design for manufacturability and design for assembly reviews with manufacturing engineering
- Write test protocols, perform product testing and document results
- Conduct pressure, load, pull, material, environmental, and cycle testing as required
- Support product certification and compliance with applicable AWWA, NSF and ASTM standards
- Troubleshoot fit, tolerance, assembly and performance issues on the production floor
- Investigate nonconformances, scrap and quality escapes related to product design
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action efforts when products fail during testing or in the field
- Evaluate components and recommend design adjustments based on performance, quality and customer needs
- Communicate directly with customers regarding product requirements and customization requests
- Partner with Sales, Product Management, Manufacturing and Quality to balance customer expectations, production capabilities and performance standards
- Review supplier drawings and technical specifications for outsourced components
- Identify cost-reduction opportunities through material substitution, design simplification and other product improvements
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- At least seven years of product engineering experience within industrial manufacturing
- Strong background in product design, customization, component evaluation and product testing
- Experience designing products that incorporate metal, rubber and plastic components
- Expertise in multiple manufacturing disciplines such as rubber, fabrication, forming, coatings, castings or machining
- Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD
- Strong technical writing and engineering documentation skills
- Experience managing BOMs, tolerances, specifications, ECRs and ECOs
- Working knowledge of design validation, process validation, DFM and DFA principles
- Strong project management, troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Confidence communicating with customers and employees at every level of an organization
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
