Product Engineer - Energy Distribution

About the role

The Product Engineer actively assists with new product design and product enhancement to support Oldcastle Infrastructure's customer-focused solutions serving the Utility and Energy Distribution markets. This role involves all design tasks within the Highline and Nordic product categories, including commercial support and collaboration with Operations and Product Management teams. The Product Engineer will complete assigned work while developing their skills in a remote capacity supporting plants in Devils Lake, ND and Warren, MN.

Responsibilities

• Establish design specifications based on industry and customer standards and expectations.
• Perform product design and detailing, prototyping, and testing.
• Coordinate internal and third-party product testing.
• Collaborate with Operations on tooling, automation, and assembly process design and implementation.
• Ensure manufacturability of designs and seamless introduction to production.
• Establish product specifications, material standards, and testing requirements for operations teams.
• Perform product design calculations and 3D modeling.
• Partner with the Drafting team to review/create customer details, product designs, and drawings.
• Provide technical support for quality standards and certifications.
• Maintain existing regulatory approvals and assist in acquiring new approvals.
• Create part numbers and bills of material.
• Attend job sites and customer meetings to provide technical support.
• Support maintenance and improvement of products through the change management process.
• Support Sales and Customer Service teams in pre-sale and post-sale strategies, including answering customer questions and investigating product inquiries/issues.
• Provide administrative support, including managing project documentation, tracking progress, and coordinating with team members.

Requirements

• Strong technical ability with 2 years of product development experience in a similar industry.
• Proactive, collaborative individual with a passion for excellent product and continuous improvement.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional team in a fast-paced product development environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communicator with excellent people skills.
• Familiarity with 3D modeling and document management software, preferably Inventor/Vault.
• Experience with simulation software tools is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to understand regulatory codes/standards and achieve product compliance.
• Mobility to work in an office setting, lift and carry files/products up to 40 pounds, and use standard office equipment.
• Ability to work in a plant production environment with exposure to noise, dust, and temperature variations; must follow all safety measures and wear PPE when applicable.
• Occasional overnight/business travel up to 30% within the US, Canada, and Mexico.

Pay

Base salary range of $85,000–$95,000 per year with a target bonus opportunity of 10% of base salary.
