Key Responsibilities
- Work with OEM technical team in the development of structural products to ensure the product meets all requirements of the customer SOR/specifications, manufacturability, and quality objectives.
- Create and modify 3D models and 2D drawings for BIW components (e.g., floor pans, pillars, roof, side structures) using CAD tools (CATIA, NX).
- Ensure the body meets performance, safety (crash), durability, and NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) targets.
- Select materials (high-strength steels, aluminum) and design for stamping, welding, assembly, and cost-effectiveness.
- Analyze the product assembly chain, evaluate tolerance stack-up effects among components, optimize tolerance allocation, and prevent assembly interference or functional failures caused by accumulated tolerances.
- Prepare necessary technical documentation.
- Work with manufacturing, tooling, stamping, closures, and quality teams to ensure designs are feasible and production-ready.
- Perform feasibility checks, interface reviews, and support validation (DVP&R, DFMEA).
- Troubleshoot issues during prototype builds and production related to water leaks, corrosion, fit, and function.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree or above, mechanical, engineering and material relevant
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive product design and development of automotive Body structure and battery enclosures
- Experience in aluminum material or aluminum structure product design will be a plus.
- Experience in Steel material or Roll forming/stamping high strength steel structure product design will be a plus.
- Experience in one or more processes, such as Aluminum Extrusion, Stamping, Welding (CMT, FSW, Laser), Riveting or other new process.
Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of ASME Y14.5M-2009.
- Creative, constructive, and positive approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills with technical proficiency.
- Knowledge of various production and prototype manufacturing methods.
- Knowledge of DFMEA and Control Plan.
- Experience in Aluminum and Steel Body Structures.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
