Product Engineer

About the role

The Product Engineer Acquisitions supports the organization in acquiring new business by completing the technical design and development of new product concepts and applying existing designs to customer platforms, ensuring customer requirements are met. The Engineer interfaces with internal stakeholders to confirm designs meet internal targets and best practices for design, manufacturing, purchasing, and quality. Once feasibility is established, the project is handed over to the project team upon business award.

Responsibilities

• Designs cutting-edge passive and electronic shock absorber and strut applications by collaborating with customers and internal stakeholders to meet customer specifications and expectations.
• Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
• Presents design proposals to internal teams through Design Reviews to identify potential manufacturing or product risks and recommend resolutions.
• Works with supporting departments to collect project costs for the overall business case, referencing product design and customer expectations.
• Independently develops and collaborates with internal resources to conduct Engineering Analysis (FEA, CFD, Theoretical modeling) to ensure products meet all requirements.
• Manages the coordination of fabrication and installation activities for prototypes to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design requirements and customer specifications.
• Collaborates with the global business unit team on lessons learned and best practices for damper design and acquisition processes.
• Maintains a safe working environment by complying with all safety and environmental policies, reporting hazards, wearing required PPE, and promoting safety awareness.
• Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in design for automotive manufacturing components (preferred).
• Strong background in automotive suspensions (preferred).
• Self-starter able to work in a fast-paced environment without day-to-day direction.
• Understanding of material properties and characteristics of materials such as steel, aluminum, sintered metals, rubber, plastic components, and various coatings.
• Ability to comprehend drawings and GD&T, with proficiency in manipulating concepts within CAD software.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze FEA/CFD results.
• Experience creating, coordinating, and presenting technical data to internal and external suppliers and customers.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings.
• Ability to recognize market trends and communicate technology needs to internal stakeholders.
• Proven ability to read and interpret customer specifications and industry standards.
• Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong project management skills with the ability to plan, monitor, and control multiple projects to ensure deadlines are met.
• Highly organized with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Exhibits integrity through fair and ethical behavior in all activities; maintains accountability for performance.
• Strong attention to detail with well-developed organizational and communication skills.
• Proven experience developing work processes to improve outcomes for the team and customers.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience and education will be considered.
