About the role
Since 1892, OPW has been a global leader in fluid-handling solutions, developing innovative products for high-value hazardous and non-hazardous bulk products, railcar and transport tank-truck valves, gauging devices, tank-monitoring systems, automated storage-terminal controls, regulators, fittings, valves, vaporizers, vacuum-jacketed piping, and gas-handling systems for cryogenics and industrial gases. OPW also manufactures touch-free and soft-touch vehicle wash systems, entry systems, and wash chemicals.
Responsibilities
- Create detailed mechanical designs, 3D models, and 2D drawings based on customer input.
- Manage project plans, meet deadlines, and control product costs.
- Lead cross-functional teams through the stage-gate process to support design initiatives.
- Build, test, and refine prototypes ensuring safety, functionality, durability, reliability, and regulatory objectives.
- Work closely with operations to develop and optimize manufacturing processes using DFMA principles.
- Manage the engineering change process to document new product designs or significant improvements in product performance.
- Create or update technical documentation including bills of material, drawings, FMEA, and other supporting information.
- Interface with sustaining engineering and operations teams for advanced technical support of products manufactured in the Hamilton, Ohio facility.
- Provide engineering support to customer service and sales teams to answer escalated technical inquiries.
- Perform other activities as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).
- 3—5+ years of experience in design or application engineering, manufacturing support, or product engineering.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with clear communication skills.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (Creo and Windchill preferred).
- Knowledge of product development processes and tools (stage-gate, FMEA, DFMA, etc.).
- Experience with the engineering change process and ERP systems (creating and updating item masters and bills of material).
- Familiarity with industry standards and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with designing components made from aluminum, carbon steel, and stainless steel, as well as different manufacturing processes like castings, forgings, machining, and welding.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ASME B31.3 a plus.
- Experience with conducting basic FEA and CFD simulations.
- Strong data-driven problem-solving background, including the ability to conduct analyses, identify root causes, develop corrective actions, and verify effective closure and removal of issues in manufacturing environments.
- Ability to travel up to 10%.
- Experience in a manufacturing facility with exposure to fluid handling equipment, including components such as valves, connectors, and swivels.
- High level of customer focus and ability to maintain a positive attitude.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times with customers and coworkers.
- Self-directed, positive, and ethical role model able to work with minimal supervision.
- Full proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
