About the Role
Mueller Water Products is seeking a Product Engineer for our Kimball, TN facility. As a key member of our team, you will configure new and existing components to meet customer requirements for butterfly, ball, knife gate, water control gates, and water control valves.
Responsibilities
- Provide SolidWorks, Creo, and AutoCAD working drawings according to requirements, ensuring timely schedule completion.
- Generate Bill of Materials (BOM) and Process Sheets for assigned product lines.
- Provide shop floor engineering support for assigned products, implementing improvements to meet customer and company needs.
- Contribute to engineering projects and improvements to engineering metrics.
- Use applicable industry specifications to develop products and coordinate activities with approval agencies for new or modified products.
- Work with internal and external customers (manufacturing, customer service, sales) to provide product support on design, processes, application, and installation issues.
- Communicate design changes, manufacturing difficulties, and cost-reduction ideas requiring product alterations or manufacturing improvements.
- Stay informed about the company’s product offerings and support key manufacturing initiatives, including Kaizen events, standard work events, value stream mapping, safety improvements, capital projects, and labor efficiency improvements.
- Develop and maintain manuals, procedures, and practices required for ISO certification and maintain relationships with approved agencies such as UL, ULC, FM, NSF, and ISO.
- Support Product Management/Engineering through development and clarification of customer needs relating to product life cycle (materials, BOMs, submittal drawings, configurations, new product development, testing, and product maintenance).
- Identify, document, and present cost savings ideas with justification and ROI calculations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar technical degree or 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Outstanding PC/systems knowledge and skills, including 2D and 3D CAD, PLM databases, and ERP software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact across all levels of employees, customers, and outside professionals.
- Knowledge of manufacturing situations, quality standards, product development, CAD/CAM, technical specifications, and project management.
- Working knowledge and experience in Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma tools.
- Travel may be required for training purposes.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2–5 years of relevant experience.
- Direct experience in valves, controls, or similar industrial products.
- Knowledge of SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and JD Edwards ERP systems.
- Knowledge of AWWA valve standards.
- Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain in a stationary or standing position for prolonged periods.
- Ability to perform repeated gross or fine manipulation using wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, steel-toed or metatarsal-guarded shoes, and ear plugs in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
- Ability to communicate constantly with others in person, via phone, or via computer.
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects up to 25 pounds in all directions.
- Ability to occasionally reach overhead or at/below shoulder level.
- Ability to occasionally stoop, crouch, or kneel.
