Product Engineer
About the Role
As a Product Engineer, you will be part of our EGR and iCAC technical development and acquisition team in NAFTA. You will provide technical leadership for product development and optimization of current and future iCAC and EGR designs. Your role involves working with customers to understand and develop their requirements, harmonizing these with MAHLE standards and capabilities to design and develop suitable products. You will oversee all technical aspects of assigned development projects, including design, validation, costing, and cost reduction/avoidance (iPCO). Collaboration with cross-functional teams such as Program Management, Purchasing, Logistics, Preventive Quality, Supplier Quality, and Process Planning is essential.
Responsibilities
- Lead DAM (Design Acceptance Meeting) and support/participate in PAM (Process Acceptance Meeting).
- Coordinate the concept, design, and release of iCAC & EGR components.
- Define thermal capacities and technical requirements for iCAC and EGR cooling components, harmonizing with customer needs.
- Support production trials (MBPR/TPR) in accordance with the project schedule and achieve customer PPAP.
- Create and execute DVP&R (Design Verification Plan & Report) for iCAC & EGR products.
- Perform 1D simulations on heat exchangers.
- Act as a liaison between Stuttgart Engineering and local customers.
- Provide technical input for component-level DFMEA and design for assembly workshops.
- Work with the test lab to ensure all test specifications are understood and executed accordingly.
- Lead component-level design reviews and drawing evaluations to ensure proper application of specifications and GD&T, interfacing with suppliers and customers.
- Lead and direct component design engineers in the creation of BOM, 3D models, and 2D drawings according to project schedules.
- Participate in project team, customer, and department meetings.
- Establish and maintain supplier technical communications and open issue lists for assigned components.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred but not required).
- Master of Science in Engineering preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in automotive product development, especially in EGR and charge air coolers.
- Familiarity with heat exchangers and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.
- Experience in facilitating DFMEA workshops in a project team.
- Knowledge of creating and maintaining DVP&R.
