Product Engineer
About the Role
This entry-level, product-focused position performs established technical tasks at the sub-system and/or component level for current and future products within a business unit or corporate area. The role spans multiple steps in the product life cycle and serves as a central coordination point between product line engineers, customer teams, systems engineers, purchasing, suppliers, and manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Investigate product problems, understand causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate action, own problem resolution, and document results with guidance from experienced team members.
- Work within business processes such as Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI), or Current Product Support (CPS), executing technical processes like Engineering Standard Work (ESW), iDFMEA, and Failure Incident Review Group (FIRG). Utilize tools such as 7-step problem solving, design review checklists, and other specialized tools to enable high-quality decision-making.
- Obtain input from stakeholders, including technical managers, project leaders, engineers, and supplier partners, to deliver recommendations that lead to quality product decisions.
- Apply academic knowledge and experience to make decisions that progress projects without sacrificing quality, including day-to-day project details, analysis, or test work instructions.
- Own problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, systems, or services, with increasing technical complexity and ambiguity as experience is gained.
- Provide independent execution of established work processes while developing product knowledge and engaging in the improvement of systems and processes.
- Coordinate and direct work among technicians and/or temporary student employees with minimal direct management of people.
- Contribute to team goals, exhibit influence within a work group, and develop proficiency in critical competency areas.
- Work on turbo development projects, support product design teams, interact with cross-functional project team members, and collaborate with turbo structure and maintenance on part lists.
- Support test turbo builds and validation testing preparation.
