Product Engineer

About the role

The Product Engineer drives innovation, development, and maintenance of product designs, with a primary focus on major new developments. A key performance metric is revenue growth through new product sales. This role shepherds new products from ideation through successful market launch, maintaining full design responsibility throughout their lifecycle. The position also oversees maintenance of existing designs, including value engineering, design updates, and corrections.

Responsibilities

• Product and process development for fluoropolymer-lined fluid handling components.
• Hands-on development work, including computer-aided design, prototyping, testing, and optimization.
• Act as technical lead on assigned new product development projects, managing and reporting in a cross-functional team environment.
• Understand and apply industry and customer specifications in the product development process.
• Interface with customers and suppliers to identify needs, develop applications, and discover opportunities.
• Collaborate with vendors to specify optimized materials for new and existing products.
• Work with Product, Process, and Operational Excellence Engineers to develop innovative solutions to design-related problems.
• Utilize collaborative design processes (e.g., DFMEA, 3P, kaizen) to enhance innovation and prevent issues.
• Ensure adherence to Fluid Handling Group NPD process, Resistoflex Engineering Change Control Procedure, and ISO 9001 procedures.
• Participate in quality improvements per IATF 16949-2016, completing toll gates for DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA, and process capability studies.
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., ISO 9001-2015, PED 2014/68/EU, API Spec. Q1, API 6D).
• Guide the production team on issue resolution using department-specific knowledge.

Requirements

• B.S. in Engineering or related degree.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for vendor/customer interactions and internal reporting.
• Product design and development expertise.
• Strong project management skills.
• Team player with strong individual initiative and decision-making ability.
• Experience in manufacturing process development.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum 5-7 years in manufacturing and product development.
• Working familiarity with Six Sigma tools and experimental design.
• Plastics processing expertise, particularly with fluoropolymers.
• Experience with machining, welding, and metal forming.
