About the role

Construction Innovations is seeking a Product Engineer to join our team. This position acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) who designs and details various products, including assemblies and manufactured parts for electrical construction projects. Projects may include utility-scale PV solar plants, other renewable energy plants, commercial/industrial buildings, or substation, transmission, and distribution projects.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret project construction documents, including technical drawings and datasheets, to establish detailing criteria.
  • Identify material and assemblies needed for electrical installation while meeting all code and project scope requirements.
  • Ensure designs for manufacturing and installation are completed by established deadlines.
  • Recommend changes to the electrical design to support manufacturing and installation.
  • Develop detailed installation plans, especially product installation details, coordinating with designers to create installation drawings that align with project scope requirements.
  • Optimize installation by selecting and/or verifying the most cost-effective and efficient products.
  • Ensure design for installation and manufacturing drawings and BOMs align with project scope requirements.
  • Guide field personnel on intended methods of installation on assigned products; collect and implement feedback.
  • Understand and communicate to other team members the capabilities, limitations, and the codes and listings applicable to their assigned products.
  • Improve existing product line offerings and suggest ideas for new products that create value.
  • Implement new products and ensure conformity with design criteria, including fabrication oversight in the plant and installation oversight in the field.
  • Train on and perform duties in accordance with the quality management system (QMS).
  • Travel to project job sites (up to 30% working time away from the office).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience on electrical construction projects.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of technological advancements in electrical systems and components.
  • Understanding of electrical materials, construction means, and methods.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Design and/or engineering experience in electrical power and/or distribution systems.
  • Installation experience on medium and high voltage distribution systems or renewable energy projects (highly preferred but not required).
  • Knowledge of renewable energy projects gained through a trade education or an engineering degree (highly preferred but not required).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with AutoCAD (plus).

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally required to sit for long and short periods of time.
  • Regularly required to talk in order to communicate detailed, important, and accurate instructions to internal and external customers.
  • Regularly required to walk for long and short distances.
  • Frequently required to stand for long and short periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to bend or twist at the neck and torso.
  • Occasionally required to crouch, squat, stoop, and kneel.
  • Occasionally required to reach forward, grab, grasp, pinch, handle material and tools using upper extremities.
  • Frequently required to lift, push, and pull objects weighing up to 25lbs.
  • Constantly required to hear sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Able to hear detailed information and distinguish sounds to avoid hazards.

Work Environment

  • The Product Engineer spends most of their time in an office environment, but will frequently spend time at the company's manufacturing plant, or occasionally at the project site.
  • When at the plant, work is performed in a more traditional manufacturing environment, with higher noise levels and frequent movement of people and equipment.
  • When on-site, the environment is that of a construction job site, which may be in fairly remote rural locations, and where extreme weather conditions may be encountered.

Reporting Structure

This position reports to the Products Manager.

Construction Innovations facilities and offices are located in Sacramento, CA, and Mather, CA.

Compensation

A reasonable estimate of the current hourly range for this position is $46.78 - $75.19 per hour. The actual amount offered within this range will depend on a variety of factors, including geography, skills and abilities, education, experience, and other relevant job-related factors. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
