Product Development Manager

About the Role

DSJ Global is partnered with a global manufacturer of flexible and thermoformed packaging solutions seeking an experienced Product Development Manager. This role serves as the primary technical liaison between customers and internal teams, leading product development, technical service, and commercialization initiatives. The Product Development Manager will collaborate with commercial, operations, and R&D teams to develop innovative packaging solutions that meet performance, sustainability, food safety, and customer requirements.

This is a remote position requiring up to 40% travel. Candidates must be located near a major airport in the US.

Responsibilities

• Partner with commercial teams to identify and commercialize new packaging opportunities.
• Lead development projects focused on new packaging structures, product improvements, and cost reduction initiatives.
• Build and maintain strong technical relationships with customers.
• Translate customer requirements into technical specifications and manufacturing instructions.
• Manage project portfolios aligned with business and customer priorities.
• Define project objectives, analyze data, develop recommendations, and drive projects to completion.
• Plan, execute, and document pilot, production, and packaging line trials.
• Coordinate cross-functional activities using internal and external resources.
• Provide ongoing technical support to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Develop reports, presentations, project updates, and technical documentation.
• Travel to manufacturing facilities, suppliers, customers, industry events, and development partners as needed.
• Maintain accurate technical records and intellectual property documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Packaging, Food Science, Plastics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 5-10+ years of packaging development experience supporting food or consumer product applications.
• Strong knowledge of packaging materials, including films, laminates, paper-based structures, and foil applications.
• Experience in new product development, packaging applications, project management, and customer-facing technical roles.
• Significant experience supporting growth categories within the food packaging market, including products requiring high-performance barrier and flexible packaging solutions.
